July 29th, 2014 - Peter B’s is a hidden gem in Monterey. I cannot guess why their Ratebeer scores are so low, but I believe the line of beers I enjoyed at their brewpub were a testament to the quality coming out of this hole-in-the-square. We found out about it thanks to a helpful liquor store owner near the aquarium, who commented on the bottle of Peter B’s Hefeweizen I picked up in the search for something local. I didn’t have this bottle until after the brewpub visit, but it holds up to the great stuff being served out of the taps. It’s a cloudy brew, tapioca colored, with a heavy, sweet smell of clove, banana and tapioca. The taste is thick too, dragged along by a thick body that weighs down the tongue, and lots more tapioca flavor on the body. This should have led the pack in terms of tasting order, but I like it all the same, and should you be looking for a bottle to bring home or around Monterey Big Sur, consider something from Peter B’s.

This cloudy golden beer had the aroma of banana bread. It is smooth and refreshing and tastes much like it smells. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
