Pours a clear dark amber body with a minimal light beige head that faded to a thin ring very quickly. The nose is very unclean, there’s a lot of grainy and husky malt with some creamed corn undertones. The flavor is pretty light, just a bit of corn sweetness and light caramel with minimal hoppiness. Light to medium bodied with very fizzy forced carbonation. Decent enough to finish the whole bottle, but I wouldn’t want a whole case of this sitting around. | 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Dec 29, 2009 OK, I really wanted to like this beer. It’s from a small brewery in Pa, making beer for years, has a decent "cult" following, and is surviving amongst the industry giants. Sorry to say, nothing all too good to report on this one.
Pours a dark, amber color with some reddish hues. Tan head that doesn’t last too long, and it appears to be somewhat fizzy - more like a root beer than a beer. Not much nose to speak of, what is there is a light malt fragrance. The flavor is somewhat like a weak root beer with a light touch of hops. Very thin for a dark lager.
Straub’s has been around for quite some time, and my guess is that if they really wanted to, they could make an excellent dark beer; but alas, this is not it. MrBeerFanatic (367), jamestown, New York, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Oct 22, 2009 Pours a golden amber with a quick to fade white head. Aromas of light toffee, caramel, some nut, touch of grain and hop. Flavors are mild of light caramel, hops, and grain. Watery. Sort of just plain bland. Sort of refreshing and crisp. ksurkin (418), Norfolk, Virginia, USA
| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Oct 22, 2009 12oz bottle via trade with zathrus13, thanks jeff! pours a clear, light amber, with a thin, whispy, white head and decent lacing. aroma is decent with slight sweet, nutty malts, earthy hops, and dusty grain. flavor is very similar to Newcastle with dark, mildly roasted, nutty malts, some caramel sweetness, and a little hop presence. palate is highly carbonated and a touch watery. overall, certainly a step above BMC and not bad for a lawnmower beer. douglas88 (1686), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Pours a deep amber color with a medium white head- not exactly dark! A sweet grainy nose. Loads of sweet glue-like grains, caramel, light hops. Quaffable and decent. Watery. thomasacross (129), Edina, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2009 Bottle. I was pretty impressed by this beer. A sort of a domestic twist on Newcastle Brown Ale. Way too sweet for a Dark Lager but charming leaving out conformity to the style. Arayaga2 (1001), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Sep 23, 2009 Caramel colored and full of diacetyl. Sourness in taste as well. Nearly a drain pour , but I’m in a bar and might get kicked out if I took the pitcher to the bathroom.
