Good ol’ Straub is a beer that can regularly be found in my fridge, this recent "dark" offering caught my eye and I didn’t think twice before grabbing a six pack. An underlying similarity to the regular lager, this is a decent inexpensive beer with some character. Soft, sweet malty aroma that is also grassy. Clear, light amber pour with a thick and lasting head. Heavy lacing and strong carbonation make for a nice appearance. Light with a smooth softness, the beer drinks easily. Slightly sweet with a balancing bitterness. Flavor of grass and caramel, a touch sugary with some vegetative hop tones. Easy and relaxing, a nice simple amber lager at an honest borderline dirt-cheap price.

Bottle - poured a clear amber copper. Nothing but light hops on the nose. Caramel malt with a faint hops note, mild and average. Special dark was nothing special. A good drinker.

Brewed in the USA, Pours a lite amber color with a med off white head. Aroma is of caramel and damp musty wood. The taste is of caramel, with a very lite body. Not much to say here, but i dont get the Special Dark part ? its drinkable.

Definitely the finest beer made by this brewer, although that is surely faint praise. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a caramel-amber color with a large yellow-white head. The aroma was sweetish caramel with a touch of molasses and cherry. The flavor is initially bitter, tangy and lightly toasty - then where the middle is supposed to be the whole flavor falls right off a cliff to water. No middle. No depth. There is a short vague sour finish and that is it. Water, water everywhere...

Kinda dissapointed with the lack of full flavor here. I was expecting a little more ’oomph’ I guess. The presentation is top notch and it pours well. If you like ’lighter’ as in not heavy dark beers, this one might do it for you.
