Commercial Description:
Miner Mishap is our version of a traditional German Schwarzbier, also known as "Black Pilsner" or simply "Black Lager". Our traditional version was formulated by our friend William Scott (or Scotty as he’s known around the brewery), an award-winning homebrewer and certified beer judge who has always been very generous about sharing his creations and his seemingly unlimited knowledge of beer. It seemed only fitting that since we started out as a homebrewery, we would try and recreate one of Scotty’s homebrews (which are typically 5 or 10 gallon batched) here in our 15 barrel 鸑 gallon) brewhouse. Brewed almost entirely with malt imported from Weyermann Specialty Malts in Bamberg, Germany and hopped with Imported German Perle and Hallertaur Mittlefreu hops, Miner Mishap is truly a one-of-a-kind original.

Didn’t really enjoy this one. Mainly lager-like flavors...couldn’t really distinguish much.

Short 12oz twist-off bottle. dark brown color, light tan foamy head. Nice cocoa aroma, sweet malt, lots of grain in the nose. Sharp roast flavor, lots of burnt grain. Very watery texture, from the lagering. Overall, nice roast. Like coffee with lots of cream. Decent, dry, and burnt.

Date: 10/10/2008 2008 GABF (AKA Choc Beer Company Miner Mishap Black Lager) very light maltiness in aroma. Dark clear. Moderate graininess in flavor with very low hop flavor and bitterness. Light body and mouthfeel with dry clean lager finish.

poured dark brown almost black looking, then when held to the light looked more of a dark red color. nice 2 finger head which quickly dissipated, light lacing. Smell has a lot of malts and chocolate, sorta had a espresso smell to it. It was a bit more watery then i had expected from the looks and smells of it. flavors are pretty much like the smells, except im picking up a strong flavor of metallic. not a bad brew, but i was hoping for more out of this one.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. The beer is a dark brown color with some red around the edges. Medium thick beige head that recedes quickly. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt and cocoa in the nose. Medium body with flavors of lightly roasted malt, coffee and chocolate. The finish is creamy with a milk chocolate and toasted malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Nice dark color, a nice stiff head when poured from a bottle. The taste was an odd combination of very sweet and mildly sour taste.

Dark brown body with some pretty garnet at the edges when held to light. The quick fading head was a light tan leather color. The sweet aroma was like molasses and tobacco. There was also some cocoa in the nose. The taste was good for just an instant when first put into my mouth. It had light cocoa and coffee. However, this then quickly turned to a souring feta cheese type funk that threw off the package. Strange to taste good for an instant, then become harsh. The light carbonation was good, but not enough to save the beer.

GABF 2008. Clear dark chestnut brown. Big burnt malt aroma and flavour, clean dry finish. Nice.
