2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 BDR (2535) - Roseville, Minnesota, USA - JUL 25, 2007
Dark amber color with thin light brown head. Sweet carob nose with a hint of caramel. More carob and caramel in the body but with a distinct "fishy" taste and a rough finish. This bottle might be off as the other Matt Brewing beer I’ve had was a good session beer.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 BREWMUSKCLES (1610) - New Jersey, USA - JUL 25, 2007
malty with a mild hop finish . the malt taste overrides with caramel and also is slightly nutty. it is a bit creamy, and this complements. looks ok in the glass ruby and with light black addition . mild sweetness flavor profile has been known to change over the years.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 thefederalist (248) - Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA - JUL 24, 2007
Bottle. Pours amber with a cream colored head and nice lacing. Sweet malt aroma. Some very mild hop aroma, but nothing to serious. Flavor is sweet and mild. This is one of the brews I recommend to people who are getting into craft beer. For more adventurous types I recommend something stronger in terms of hop/malt/yeast profile. But I don’t see how this could offend any palate, and I recommend it to the most timid drinkers.

Bottled. Gift from a neighbor.Red pour with hints of sweet malt aroma. Mild roast taste. Not horrible but nothing too interesting.
2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 asedzie (520) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUL 12, 2007
Bottle. Pours deep mahagony with thick off-white head. Aroma is fruity, berries, sweet malt scent with displeasing metallic odor behind. Flavor is stale hops, faint berry and citrus flavors. Slightly sweet aftertaste.
1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 Borrrris (110) - LINDENHURST, New York, USA - JUL 6, 2007
BOTTLE: Disappointing, this one. Not surprised at the typical F X Matt thin body and slightly oily palate, but this is a fairly muddy and bland brew for something called "wicked". Several Saranacs from this brewery are more appealing (and cheaper) brews. Fails the "empty bottle sniff" test miserably with a sour aroma. Maybe a bad bottle??BUY AGAIN? No, except to confirm that this bottle was typical.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 shrubber85 (4843) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - JUN 20, 2007
Botte. Brown sugar and sour barley malt aroma. Brown amber with minimal head. Sour barley malt flavor with a hint of brown sugar and a moderate hops finish for the style. Used to be one of the best choices in the late 80s/early 90s when it was one of the few micros around. Still decent but not as distinctive as it used to be.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 thegreenrooster (2438) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - JUN 17, 2007
Pour is a brown with a white head. Aroma is where this one has problems. I can get almost nothing. Some malts but not much else. Flavor on the other hand is decent. Light caramel malts with some roasted nuts and finishes with a nice hoppy backbone. Nothing earth shattering but a decent beer available almost eveywhere.
