hmmm. this one leaves a lot to be desired but is a good cheap alternative to something of quality like newcastle.

The color was a watery amber. The head was creamy, foamy, and off-white. The aroma was ale and very lacking. The flavor was slightly bitter and lacking as well. The palate was thin and the finish was abrupt.

Pete’s wicked, bout time I tried some of this. 12 0z brown bottle. Pop the lid to smell some beery yeastyness. Perhaps hints of roasty strong ale. Very decent light rootbeer or dark cream soda appearance. There is a nice thin froth and a foam ring around the inside of the glass but no head. Constant bubbles rising but not streaming from within the brew. The first taste is mild malt bitterness, ale expected. This fades quickly to a note of surprising sourness, barely. Pretty nice average carbonation as the brew rolls down the back of yer throat. Throughout the malt keeps its mild bitterness. This has some personality, definitely more than your typical pale yellow american beer. Label says this beer is tantalizing and out of the ordinary, I have to agree with that. Finish seems like it wants to be a strong ale but it ends up being between the smoothness of a pale yellow lager and the bite of a pale ale. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it is not too offensive. I think this is just a tad more enjoyable in flavor than JJ wainwrights evil eye. Better than dogfishead indian and saranac brown but not quite as good as troegs nut and wild goose nut.

Nice ruby brown color. Slight aroma of hops. Weak on the palette, but smooth. Decent balance of hops and malt. Beginner craft brew.

Nice mildly malty browny ale aroma. Nice ruby coppery color. The head went away so fast I can only say it was whitish. Very smooth, so smooth as Newcastle Brown. However, it has more of a malty brown ale taste. So if NB is step one for a newby, this could be step two. There’s even some hop at the end, but it is overbalanced by malty sweetness. Nicely drinkable, especially on a coldish day.

I had heard of this for years, but had never tried....I can see I hadn’t missed much. Poured to a bright amber, with medium off-white head and okay lacing. Aroma was somewhat malty, but mostly old dark fruit smell. Taste was hard to distinguish anything particular, and the finish was dry and stale. Not very impressed with this one.

Stacked against a field of mass market brewers, beds & miller etc, this would be the pick of the litter, but when you’ve just tasted 70 odd micro brews, its rather insipid. Nice color, red and frothy. Aroma is above average to. Flavor has florid hops, overall, way to watery. Nothing to hate, but nuthin special.
