Petes Wicked is an old standby. You used to see it on tap all over the eastern seaboard but then it went away, and I recently rediscovered it in bottle at the local grocery. The nose shows a mix of spicy hop, earthy malt and some metallic coppery aroma, like a new penny, but not in an unpleasant way. Pouring a dark hued amber, the head retention is dissappointing, fading quickly and leaving little lace. The flavor is where PWA really shines, portraying a profile that works well with a variety of foods, or as a session brew on its own. At once slightly sweet and earthy, it is balanced with the hops tending towards a darker flavor. A nice slightly sweet and tart aftertaste finishes things up.

Malty nose with a definite hops presence. Dark amber in color topped by a nice creamy looking head. Smooth and easy drinking... it has a nutty flavor combined with a minty hops aftertaste. Overall, it makes a good session beer.

12oz bottle. Filtered brown-amber color, thin beige head. Medium bodied, with some sweet caramel flavors tones. A pleasant balance of medium-dark malts and light, soapy hops. Almost tastes as if there is a bit of amber malt in it. Inoffensive and straightforward. Mild nutty notes. An OK session beer, tame and simplistic.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Powertrip (758) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 27, 2010
This one is quiet on the nose. Some soil and light hints of coffee.....ya that’s about it. Taste was quite fruity for me, much more than expected for a mostly brown ale. Orange, pineapple and apple. Malt was not overly abundant. This one didn’t taste all that bad, I think it was just the wrong beer in the wrong bottle :) Its finish was caramel and icing sugar.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 ketchepillar (874) - Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA - JAN 16, 2010
Overcarbonated, but nevertheless poor head formation and retention. Caramelly crystal malts with a hint of biscuit come through at the end of the finish. That’s about all there is for flavor. Good news is that that tastes alright and the rest isn’t bad. Aroma is just a bit of bread and poo.

Bottle. Poured a brownish red with a thin head. So When I saw this I was surprised to see it. I remembered this beer from way before the micro craze and used to like it. Well, somethings changed. Probably more my palate than the beer. Nose was somewhat malty with a hint of fruit and sweetness. There is almost nothing up front. Then there’s a bunch of malt and carbonation. A typical bad red ale like the other bad red beers that most of us don’t care for. So much for the trip down memory lane. Sorry pete.
