COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tribute to our favorite Brewmaster, Greg Matthews, the Velvet Hammer appears as a dark, ruby reddish-brown ale beneath a sheath of protective off-white foam. It is malt-forward with elements of caramel and the sweetness of light brown sugar, balanced nicely by a combination of floral hops and a noticeable alcohol bite. It’s a sturdy brew with a smooth character which belies both an inner strength and a slightly full body, along with a moderate bitterness to round out the taste.

Have had this a few dozen times but yet to rate it, always the go to at Cane Rosso as it comes in a larger glass that at other establishments. It is rather strong and you know it as the alcohol is not hidden like he does with the Wintervention. Smells great, pours a beautiful dark red. Love it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This one is such a favorite which causes me to maintain a growler or two in my frig, since it's only available on draft. Pours a darkish red amber with an off-white head. The nose is caramel and spice. The flavor has a subtle smokiness with a bit of pepper supported by a clean caramel. There is a nice fizz and bitterness, if swirled the in the mouth, which also releases a the floral hops through the nasal cavity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Smooth worth malt lead. Brown sugar finish written a hint of cinnamon. A bit of bitter hop lingers. Over all beer decent, dangerously drinkable at 9%

Almost by accident I have been chasing this beer across Dallas and here I am back at Mellow Mushroom and it is available. Beer is light on velvet and big on hammer. Red colour. Light, head. Heavy glass, though an irrelevant fact. Moderate hop nose. Big hop flavour, some malt and big fruity ABV.

8/7/2014. Clear dark amber with an off-white head. Sweet malty aromas with caramel, toffee and light fruit. Very smooth and soft. A little bit of alcohol burn, but smooth all the way.

Good stuff. Well crafted and malty. Hops backup this nice hefty brew. Good full mouthfeel with doughy, malty goodness. It reminds of a nice belgian brown made with american yeast and without the spices. Good brew overall nothing too overpowering but has some alco in the sip but balanced.

Pours a deep purple brown color with a slight floral aroma. Taste is a bit brown sugar mixed with hops which doesn’t hide the alcohol content. A decent raisin and sugar mixture that allows the beer to feel smooth on the palate.

Pours a nice dark amber color with white head. Caramel malt, alcohol, floral notes, and some pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some nice bitterness on the end.

Without a doubt, the best Dallas craft beer out there. Fantastic appearance and palate. Superb balance of malt and hops. Will even win over non- beer drinkers- the only time I have ever had someone say "I'll have what she's having". If you are in North Texas and you're not drinking this, you're missing out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap. Copper pour. Caramel, medicine, metal. Medium body with long bitter finish. Surprisingly good
