COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A tribute to our favorite Brewmaster, Greg Matthews, the Velvet Hammer appears as a dark, ruby reddish-brown ale beneath a sheath of protective off-white foam. It is malt-forward with elements of caramel and the sweetness of light brown sugar, balanced nicely by a combination of floral hops and a noticeable alcohol bite. It’s a sturdy brew with a smooth character which belies both an inner strength and a slightly full body, along with a moderate bitterness to round out the taste.

Have had this a few dozen times but yet to rate it, always the go to at Cane Rosso as it comes in a larger glass that at other establishments. It is rather strong and you know it as the alcohol is not hidden like he does with the Wintervention. Smells great, pours a beautiful dark red. Love it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

8/7/2014. Clear dark amber with an off-white head. Sweet malty aromas with caramel, toffee and light fruit. Very smooth and soft. A little bit of alcohol burn, but smooth all the way.

Good stuff. Well crafted and malty. Hops backup this nice hefty brew. Good full mouthfeel with doughy, malty goodness. It reminds of a nice belgian brown made with american yeast and without the spices. Good brew overall nothing too overpowering but has some alco in the sip but balanced.

Barreras (978) - Diamond Bar, California, USA - JUN 26, 2014
Pours a deep purple brown color with a slight floral aroma. Taste is a bit brown sugar mixed with hops which doesn’t hide the alcohol content. A decent raisin and sugar mixture that allows the beer to feel smooth on the palate.

Pours a nice dark amber color with white head. Caramel malt, alcohol, floral notes, and some pine on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some nice bitterness on the end.

Without a doubt, the best Dallas craft beer out there. Fantastic appearance and palate. Superb balance of malt and hops. Will even win over non- beer drinkers- the only time I have ever had someone say "I'll have what she's having". If you are in North Texas and you're not drinking this, you're missing out. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750ml growler in a tulip. Pours ruby/brown with a lacy off-white head. Aroma of caramel and toffee, light chocolate notes, floral hops, and light alcohol. Flavor the same. Average to smoother texture. A decent beer.

on tap at Stanleys BBQ in Tyler, dark reddish copper color with a small but frothy head. Very sweet smelling, some burnt sugar or cotton candy, extremely good smelling, the taste is sweet as well with some frosting like alcohol in the initial taste. Very solid beer could and have drunk again.
