Golden honey coloured. Very cloudy. Thick ivory head. Intense aromas of honey, orange, passion fruit, peach, yeast and cake. Much easier than its older sibling (Orval), less secondary than it. It actually smells like a mix between a regular Orval and an american IPA. Dry, pungent and sizzling. Fresh and bitterish. Medium-lasting. Nice, but not as interesting as Orval.

Bottle. Beautiful, orangebrown beer with a dense, big and beige head. Aroma has lots of green apples and sourness, some bananas, other fruits also, lether and earthyness. Taste is quite sour, green apples, spices, fruits, dry lether, strong herbs in the end. Medium bodied, strong and smooth carbonation. The great beer wtih lots of same notes as in the normal Orval. Complex and enjoyable, very tastefull.

Bottle at home with friends, courtesy of Eric. Pour is hazy orange with a big white head and great lacing. Bug medicinal, grassy, hoppy, some band-aid, doughy and herbal aroma. Taste is very dry, tropical fruity, band-aid, lemony, grassy, orange, and fruit rind with a lightly bitter finish. Light body with high carbonation. I dig the dry, effervescent characteristics of this one. Not as good as the normal, but one cool tick. Thanks again man!!

Bottle @ Stephen’s whale slaying. Thanks Eric! Pours a hazy yellow orange appearance with an off white head. Some funk and floral notes to go with some salsa and veggie notes. A bit twangy and grassy. Chewy, dry and herbal. Pretty refreshing. Maybe meant to be drank a fresher but still kind of fun.

UPDATED: JAN 4, 2015 The ’green’ Orval, a remnant of the second World War and now the monks’ own "refter beer" - in other words, the beer for daily use. Limited production and very hard to find, I had it from a bottle once and a second time from tap at L’Ange Gardien. Loose, off-white head, colour a deep amber, the same as the ’big’ Orval but a tad paler. Aroma and taste are basically the same, but everything in a more subdued, diluted way, less outspoken, as if you would pour mineral water into an ordinary Orval. A bit sweeter perhaps too, but the aftertaste shows the same dry-hopped effect, long and bitter. Bit thin mouthfeel due to the low ABV. Not sure if this is a different recipe, as the monks claim; to me, this did seem like an Orval diluted with water. But still, it remains an Orval!

Unlabeled bottle courtesy of kraddel. Nice color, excellent head retention and lacing. Subtle malts, plenty of hops (though a bit aged), mildly herbal, dry as a bone. A bit one-dimensional, not really my thing.

Pours cloudy amber with airy but stable off-white head. Clear aroma of fruit, malt ans flowers. Bitter, hoppy flavour, with notes of citrus, malt and yeast. Bitter and estery aftertaste with acidic notes. A very nice one.
