3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
From the cafe near the abbey. Clear copper color. Effervescent. Decent head although not nearly as large as the head on regular Orval given similar pours. Very mild aroma. A touch of hops in the nose. No real discernible brett aroma--I’m not sure if they use brett in the Petite Orval. Small malt aroma and flavor. Very nice subdued beer. Good medium mouthfeel. I could drink this beer all night. Remarkable flavor and complexity for such a small beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cl bottle.
Pours hazy orange color with a large white head. Very interesting aroma here, herbal, urinal cake, rowan berries, apricot, some earthy funkyness, yeast and grass. Flavor is somewhat fruity, some apricot and rowan berries again, yeasty and grassy. The aroma is quite interesting in a good way, slightly bland flavor though, as expected.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
330 ml bottle. Pours an amber orange colour with a white foamy head. Aroma is rather interesting; brett, juicy fruitiness, orange pith and pear drops. Flavour of grassy bitterness, dried fruits, yeast and a bit of citrus. Light bodied with high carbonation. Sharp and thin finish. A bit foamy mouthfeel. Thin.

33 cl bottle @ home
No idea of vintage or ABV, but at least this does not feel old
Aroma has bretta notes, earthy tones and some mild toffee. Flavour has strong urinal tones, tartness, grapefruit, mild apricot and hints of toffee. A bit foamy palate. Also some menthol in the finish. Refreshing and quite good; better than I expected.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
330 ml bottle
Slightly hazy orange beer with enormous off-white head. Aroma has funky saddleish brett, appleish Belgian yeast and toffeey sweetness with slight cherry. Flavor is herbal and yeasty. Palate is thin with high carbonation. Finish has quite mild bitterness. Aftertaste has apple, funky brett, herbal hops and cherry. Refreshing, close to the original Orval but thinner. Not much sediment, a bit hazier, a bit tamed aroma and a bit more yeasty flavor.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
0,33 l bottle from FIRMA BIER. Hopefully it is not just a fake with the label being removed from the regular one. Minimally hazy, golden amber with a huge, foamy, very slowly diminishing, white head. Funky aroma of lemon, fermented apples, white grapes and a bit of gooseberry. Weak, sourish taste of lemon, fermented apples, white grapes and gooseberry. Short, dry and a little watery finish with slight hop bitterness and a bit of iron as well. Thin body and a bit watery, fizzy mouthfeel, lively carbonation. Not easily distinguishable from the regular Orval if you do not compare them at the same time. But to be honest, this one is just a shadow if its older brother as it is quite weak in aroma and taste and nothing more than a nice thirst quencher. There is no need to drink it regularly and thus to distribute it outside the holy halls. And no, that bottle was not just a fake.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle purchased from Kraddel at the bar he works at in Antwerp early 2014, consumed at home. Easter Monday 6th April 2015 Drinking this alongside a regular but very fresh standard Orval, looks wise they are startlingly similar, both are a hazy orange moving to brown with a slight glow and a handsome puffy, swiftly departing head. If I had of had this as a standalone Orval I have to confess that my suspicions may not have easily been aroused, it’s very similar in taste, it’s a great beer, but having the luxury to compare you realise it is a little thinner in the mouth, a little less sweet and not as malty (not that the original is that malty btw) I rather like this version, interestingly I’d had this before but never got round to rating it.
