3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 fear025 (212) - Illinois, USA - JAN 28, 2011
Aroma:This one smells like a sour beer, with hints of wine.
Appearance:Pale with lots of bubbles. Lots of thick white head with OK retention.
Taste:There is a sharp tart apple sourness on the foretaste. The tartness fades quickly into a clean slightly sweet taste on the back end.
Palate:The acidic wild yeast astringency builds as the tartness fades. Good carbonation.
Overall:This is a quite refreshing sour beer. It’s not the most sour beer in the world, but it’s got some great flavors.

Nice tart aroma of apples and a green apple flavor to it. There’s good flavor to the beer, but I found the sour to be a bit unbalanced/too puckering for my taste--no real malt background to it.

Deep golden pour with a nice white head. Aroma is tart and dry with some great woody notes and sour apricot. Flavor is sour but not mouth puckering. Some stone fruit, sour mash, tart and some light booze notes. Good.

Bottle 33cl. A clear yellow-copper beer without head. Smell is sour. Aroma is medium sweet with nuts, wood, and apple skin aroma, typical brettanomyce bitter mushroom taste at the finish. Near to a gueuse but more sweet. Quite surprising beer, not really a Flamish Red not really a gueuse, but a pleasant beer, specially for the summer.

Pours light carmel brown. Musty on the nose. Scent similar to a white wine. Taste is typical of a belgium with nice tart notes. Finish is a little funky. A sour that seems to work ok for me.

Pours brassy gold, medium head that hangs around a bit. Nose is sour at first, oaky and tart smelling, funky. Interesting, in my reading of the label I hadn’t expected a wild/sour ale. Taste is pleasantly and not overpoweringly tart, a hint of sweet gives way to an acidity and tartness that could work well paired with food. Finishes with a brief sourness and crisp carbonation. This is a ’sour’ I can actually stand, not bad all around.
