3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 sleestak (226) - Williamston, Michigan, USA - SEP 1, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 8, 2011 Draft at Bavarian Lodge. Pours a pretty, clear gold with a thin but lacy head. Aroma of apple cider vinegar, and light cheesy funk. Flavor hits you with spritzy tart apple and finishes lemony with a mild spiciness from the oak. Very light barnyard, but certainly not a mother funker. Champagne-like in body, and very refreshing. Alcohol is deeply closeted. Sooooo good.

Botle. Pours bright gold with a white head. Bretty funky tart aroma with some woody hints. Nice funky tart flavor, not overly sour. Easy to drink. Nice.

A little cloudy golden yellow beer, small fine white head. Smell is typically that of a Flemmish red ale, a little tart, sour cherries and ripe fruits.MF: fresh and sparkling with a nice bite. Taste is very sour and fruity. Aftertaste has lemony acidity and some tartness. Very nice.

Tap at Paradiso. Listed as an oude bruin- which is a little misleading since this is a soured blonde- almost geuze like overall. It poured a clear yellow with a thin, not very substantial head with decent retention. Very crisp and refreshing sour. At first the sourness is light and vinegar forward and eventually develops into a full sour that is very heavy on white white vinegar and Granny Smith apples. Is a little heavy on the acedic acid, which brings a spicy sour character rather than a yogurty lactic character. Thin bodied, no residual sugars. A very nice surprise.

From a 330ml bottle on 24/8/2010. The aroma is not pleasant - primarily vinegar, with some fermenting apple. When it hits the mouth, there is a touch of sweetness but that’s overwhelmed by a shortish but extreme and one dimensional sourness. This one tastes alot like champagne, and I’m not much of fan of champagne. Did not enjoy this one at all.

On draft. Clear pale golden pour with white head. Nose is cheesy funk. Flavor is wonderfully tart puckering. Great brew. Delicous. Like a gueuze

Pours a bright clear golden color with a smaller than average head that lasts as a film for most of the beer. The lacing is very nice and sticky as it clings to the glass. Great funky, tart, sour fruit aroma. First sip hits you with that same sour funk, and then mellows out quite a bit. I got a lot of sour apple/grapes mixed in with a musty funk and acidity. There is a slight sweetness to balance it all through the beer and a very pleasant dryness at the end. There is a medium to light body which is a bit thin for an Oud Bruin, however this one is a "Pale" ale. . . either way I would have preferred more body. Very refreshing and so easy to drink, could drink it all day.

33 cL bottle, $3.70 @ Binny’s. Looks like a regular dubbel at first pour, then a reddish tinge appears, under a thin layer of small bubbles. Smell is lightly tart, mostly of cherry, I think. Greater sense of sourness in the taste. I get the definite impression of bugs that came specifically from their oak. A bit of red wine to it, slight warming alcohol. Brisk and zesty, a nice sour beer for the summer.
