My palate likes sour, but maybe not as much I expected. Aged oad, tons of puckery sourness, and hazy golden in a goblet. For fans of the sour ales, this is right up your alley.

Oak aged adds a lot to this brew. Maybe too much. Vanilla and oak tannin dominate along with a woody flavor. Some malt and light complexity fill out the mid. Enjoyable brew. Almost refreshing when served cold on a hot day. Very drinkable. Tough to pick out what type of beer it actually is as it just seems like the oak dominates. Not sure I’d buy again, maybe try it from keg or even better an aged version. I just don’t see much upside.

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2008 Bottle from Whole Foods. Orange/brownish in color. Tart and sour aroma. Super smooth vinous flavors right up front. Nice cask flavors with good sourness. Great sour brew with a lot of goodness going on.

The pour reveals a clear golden color with a medium white head, it leaves nice lacing on the glass. The aroma reminds me at first of a good, dry, white wine, there’s somme apples too with wood and sourness, it feels very promising. The flavor deliver the promises with subtlelty, the wood, sourness, apples and white wine feeling are there, but they exist in unity, not as seperate elements. The mouthfeel is very pleasant and comfortable, medium thickness and creamy texture combine with gently prickling, lively carbonation. I like the fact that this sour ale doesn’t try to blow your taste buds off, it offers its complexity with gentleness and harmony.

Golden color with a thick, fluffy white head. Yeasty Belgian nose, very fruity. Flavor is tart and similar to a Flanders Red. Very crisp. Lots of bittersweet fruit character. Very good.

Pours bright gold into a snifter. Bright white head leaves sheet lacing as it recedes to skim surface. Sour citrus aromas. Full sour fruit. Puckering yet crisp.

Bottle, Belgian Belly, Chorlton. Poured a clear true golden colour with a medium white head. Aroma was intensely woody mixed with sour green apple. Flavour had obvious evidence of the oak barrel aging. Wasn’t overtly sour and struck a good balance between the woodiness and the fruit. Definite cider parallels. Finish was sour if a little short.
