3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Boliv (1146) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 11, 2013
Bottle. Pours straw-colored, bright yellow and gold, with a small creamy white head that recedes quickly. Aromas of tart fruit and cherry, wet hay and horse, and some manure and ripe cheese. Berry and vinegar are also present. The flavor is sour lemon and cherry, some grassy bitterness and fruit stones, and cheese. High carbonation, medium body, tart, refreshing, and very quenching. Very nice. [1117]

Finally getting to try an elusive brew on the top of my “sours to try” list. Pours a bright, innocuous crystal clear golden hue with a lovely white foam that makes way for a lasting ring of white froth. The smell is surprising and powerful. Heavy with ripe fruits and lots of apparent sourness. Apricot, apple, pineapple. Very bright, voluptuous. Acacia honey and lemon also appear. The flavor is less full-flavored than I expected. Very refreshing though, with more of a spring water feel than the nose lets on. Starts with a light fizzy, almost champagne-like quality, and flows into heavy oaky vanilla and leathery sourness. There’s a lingering bitterness that feels a bit off, but otherwise an enjoyable flavor. Feels light on the palate, and aftertaste is far too short. I expect more of a mellow chewiness from my sours, and unfortunately it doesn’t quite deliver. I was surprised to see 7.3% ABV on the label, for such a light beer it certainly masks it well. Overall, it’s a fine brew. I think I would enjoy it more on a hot day, than a cool evening like tonight.

Aromas and flavors of white vinegar and citrus are dominated by rich, lactic, buttery nuances, spice and damp old wood. Very tart and mouthwatering on the mid-palate.. With a fairly short, dry, tart finish.. That leaves a savory, nutty, woody flavor in my mouth. One of the best for the price and availability, though not a top shelf sour.

Aroma hints of leather and farmyard notes with a sour pineapple center. Golden with a short lasting head. Flaour adds a hint of lemon and some strong acidity while retaining the pineapple tartness.

Bottle poured into a tulip. Very transparent in color, light golden. Settled to almost no head. Taste is very tart on the front end, finishing with a light toastiness reminiscent of a lager. Good, if a little pricey.
