Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A clear golden beer ; many small bubbles ; medium white head ; average retention. Wood, apple, cider, light herb. Medium dry sour refreshing, light to medium sweet, light bitter. Medium body, thin texture, average carbonation, short woody sour > sweet finish. Overall, a very enjoyable sour woody belgian ale.

Cuerpo medio, sabor àcido moderado y redondo, pimienta, y final seco largo. El regusto es de una acidez agradable.

Sorry, but reading all the other’s ratings... I can’t believe it. When I just taste it I thought something was wrong, a bad one because a bacteria or similar. Then I googled the beer and abracadabra: A lots of ratings extolling the vinegar taste, acid and all these stupid snob ratings pretending to look "cool beer hunters". Pathetic. This is a absolutely failed experiment, that’s all. This is not a beer, is just a bad experiment, but bottled. I’m open minded with beer but one thing is that a beer could have somewhat acid, or vinegar taste in the right measure. But this is absolutely predominant over the other flavors. Don’t waste your money in that beer, no matter the prizes...

I have not seen this beer before at the LCBO, so I jumped all over it. Bought two bottles. What a mistake! Just an awful tasting beverage. Sour and bitter in an atrocious combination. If this is the best Petrus has to offer (and according to people around here, that is the case), I will stay far, far away from them. Horrible. One of only a couple of beers that was poured down the drain.

330ml bottle. Pours clear gold, thin white head. Aroma is good sour funk. Taste is crisp sour, with prickly grapefruit and pineapple tickling the senses. Good sour.

Pours golden with white top. Aroma brings up some cellar, dead leaves, fruits, floral notes, citrus, some old furniture. Taste is sour, also some pepper, fermented fruits, pineapple, some sweetness. After stays quite sharp, can feel carbonisation and fermentation. Very good and interesting beer!

Beautiful clear golden honey color with a thin white head. Lots of funky sour aroma with only a little cheese/stinky feet. Definite sour bite right up front, but it’s smooth and more barnyard and hay. Usually with this type of sourness there’s more of a malty or woody component to balance it out, but this has a much milder body (which I guess is the pale part) which seems like it wouldn’t be enough, but it is. Everything shines through here with an excellent balance and restraint. This reminds me of a light version of Monk’s Cafe. What could be an excessively sour beer is refreshing and almost champagne-like.
