COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Bottled 33cl. Courtesy of Daniele. It pours a clear golden beer with a nice off white head. Sour nose with a lot of oak showing up. Hints of leather, apples, tarragon, sage and blueberries. sour taste of apples, blueberries and tarragon. The oak characteristic is quite present. Low carbonation. Medium bodied. Some lacework. Dry finish which is reminiscent of apples. Very pleasant.

Woo-hoo! mmm, mm, good beer! Very interesting. Big tropical fruit nose with a lilttle malt and a hint of the flavor to come: sour. Poured with a small head that quickly fades to almost none and a tiny bit of lace. Very clear rich gold color. Flavor is much more dry and much less fruity than the nose would suggest. Very nice carbonation. Tartness lingers on the tip of the tongue. Finish is clean leaves good memories. Not sure if it’d be a session beer.

[2025-20090303] 330mL bottle. Sweet lemon juice aroma has a bit of pineapple. Clear, orange yellow body with a medium-lasting foamy white head. Tangy yeast fruit flavour with sour lemon throughout. Medium body has a sour tang. Very nice!

11.2oz brown glass pry-top bottle. Back label stamped "39681." Appearance: Poured into my Maudite tulip. A hazy light amber hay color. Slight, quickly receding white head. Nose: Apricots, peaches, kumquats, lime, sour dough, slight minerality. Also, smells like a million bucks! Palate: Sour! Holy sour, batman! Wow, ok...medium-bodied, light to no carbonation really. Lots of sour peach, sour apricot, kumquats again, with some oxidized nuttiness in the background. There’s this toasted hazelnut/caramelized sugar underpinning beneath all this sour citrus fruit. There’s enough sweetness to keep the acid from getting out of hand, and the oaking keeps the sourness in check by drying it out a litte. Notes: Talk about a complex beer! Wow, totally blow away by this one. I love the interplay between the nutty/oxidized sub-notes and the full-on sour apricot body. Highly recommend for fans of sour beers.

Clear golden with a pale cream head. A yeasty aroma with a sour taste. Very little sweetness to it.

11.2 oz bottle. Clear gold with a haze of white foam. Nose is lemon with faint honey and oak. Not quite light, some sparkle. Taste is lemon smoothed by vanilla oak. Dry sour finish. Well made simple sour.

Pours mostly clear with a thin, fleeting head. Acetic acid aroma, stopbath! which way to the darkroom? Corn silage as well. Rotting apples. Sweeter than the aroma would suggest. Lots of tart sourness but there’s balance here that keeps it it out of Lambic territory.

Pours a clear golden with a tinge of orange, small white head. Grain, green apple, cheese, biscuits, dry malt, floral hops. Not that sour, and pretty heavily carbonated. Not a very good sour in my opinion.

2009 Peoria International Beer Fest. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. Aroma is a granny smith apple scent with a pretty pungent sourness. Sour dominates the flavor and notes of apples and some mild grainy notes work their way in there as well. Beer has a light acid bite at the very end and is a very pleasant beer overall.
