Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

UPDATED: JUL 25, 2011 (11.2oz thanks to Mora2000) Pours a faint hazy yellow with white fizzy head. Aroma of nice citrus funk, tart, a bit of farmhouse. Flavor same as aroma and has a nice tartness and a bit acidic. Mouth feel is light body with fizzy carbonation. Overall, I really liked this!

Bottle. Hazy golden with a medium white head. The aroma is acidic with sweet caramel notes and sweet fruit. The flavour is quite sour with some metallic notes as well as fruit and caramel. Long sour finish.

clear dark yellow / golden, slal non-lasting white head. wood , sourness, rubber in the aroma, also some exotic fruits. quite acid. flavor is tat, vineagra. sour stingy flavor, but quenching and not too vineagra’ish. reminds me a little of spanish sidra natural (no relation reg. ingredients etc. but the sourness is a little alike).

lucent gold, very thin white head, medium body, very high co2.

aroma: very bright, sweet and sour fruit (apricots, mangoes, peche lambic), citrus acidity, touch of herbal bitterness.

taste: very bright sour acidity, carbonic acid too.

i don’t really get any oak in here anywhere; and not much of anything in the taste, other than intense sour acidity.

Draught at Monk’s Cafe. Sour. Sraw color. Whatever critters were in the barrel, they did their work. Fruity sour with some plumb and grape, but not a pucker beer.

Seattle, WA. 11oz. Bottle into tall wine glass. Petrus is the resulting attitude of a cider in solitary confinement after shanking somebody. The sweetness is replaced by resentment and bile. 2 1/2 finger head of large bubbles which dissipates rather quickly. Head color was very pale buttery, and it did not stay on the sides of the glass. Although there was no particulate in the beer, it was slightly clearer than etched glass. Color is brassy, on the pale side of amber. The beer was consistently carbonated with large bubbles, even a full fifteen minutes after the pour. The nose is fruity-sweet with a tinge of spoil. Distinct but not overpowering, it makes you curious. The sour notes hit the tongue first, followed by the dense carbonation and ends with a very dry feeling on the back of the tongue and throat. The flavor runs front to back. It is unsweetened sour apple or pear with a touch of quinine. The sour is sharp, and the dull bitterness persists in the back like bile would. My lips feel like I do when I eat salty peanuts. The beer goes quickly because it makes you thirsty. I am very pleased with this beer. Despite its funkiness, it is a delight to drink, albeit slowly. Petrus dares me to take another sip, and I happily oblige.

On tap at Max & Joe’s. Pours a slightly hazy gold with a large white head. This beer is essentially the same as the Old Brown, except that it is way less sweet and finishes with a dryness. Good Stuff.

Pours hazy gold, with a small light head. Aromas of oak predominate, with faint impressions of hay, malt, with lingering afternotes of summer fruits and citrus. Taste is quite sour, even more so than a gueze lambic, with a nice bit of balancing sweetness. Dry, sticky finish, and a medium body; hold its abv well. A very good ale, sharp and woody; a real treat.
