Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Had this right after the Petrus Oud Bruin, and surprised how much higher a score it gets comparably. While this has a much more expressive nose, it’s still just a bit too much of a sour punch for me. The mouthfeel wasn’t nearly as pleasant either... a touch too thin. Overall too acidic and puckering for my taste. If you’re looking for a solid sour kick in the junk, this’ll be right up your alley.

Tap at Fermentoren Aarhus. Pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is tart with slight hops, green apples, vinegar, tart, white grapes, Lemon peel. Taste is sour, acidic, but with a certain oily malt sweetness. Body is light to oily with a Fairly High carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Golden, nearly clear, with a small frothy head. Aroma is citrusy, a little woody. It is dry and very sour, with a good bite from the carbonation. Good and interesting for the sake of beer art, but not as complex nor refreshing as a geuze.

F: white head frothy, not long lasting. C: hazy gold colour. A: wine, earthy yeast, wood, hint of lemon. T: very special dry earthy, vinous, grapefruit, vinegar sourness and dryness on the palate, some woody tones, leather, tart fruit, medium to complex body, good carbonation, nice dry end on the palate, very good one for this style, worth to try.

Draft @ Rosamunde today waiting for E. Pour is gold, 50-60% transparency, minuscule head and lacing. Nose is funk-sour but also fresh piney hops, cool. Tastes like sour grapefruit, good mix of a sour and pale/IP ale.

Zure matjes. Weet niet zo goed wat ik er moet. Heeft wel wat van Cider. Dorstlessend...
