4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Reviewed 3/6/13. 11.2 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a light golden amber color. The head is a one finger white shade. Itís more substantial looking than others in the style, but still fades quickly. Thin splotches of lacing are left on the glass.
S: Thereís good tartness on the nose - better than I expected really, given how low the Petrus Oud Bruin was in sour qualities. The fruit esters here are pretty light; apple, pear, grapes, and maybe some vague citrus. Even touches of honey and pale malts are found.
T: Oh yeah. This one has some good mouth-puckering sourness. Itís definitely acetic/vinegary in nature; however, itís not perfectly integrated within the other (meager) qualities the flavor profile provides. It is balanced well, however. Just like the aroma, there arenít really any cherry fruit qualities, itís pretty much apple/pears/grapes alongside the acetic sourness. It becomes less tart near the finish as some light maltiness and the faintest ípingí of grassy hops come through.
M: Pretty damn light in texture, which is just what I look for in the style. Oak tannins help to dry out some of the acidic zing on the finish and aftertaste, and never come across too harshly. It isnít particularly easy to drink, but it IS easy to sip, and thatís what counts.
O: This one definitely delivers the sour, puckering bite to it - and at a decent price, to boot! I really wish it was fruitier, but thatís just nitpicking. Iíd definitely consider making this one a go-to sour for me.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from greens on the most ratings available to me list. Finding some nice things on this list and this is definitely one of them. Cloudy yellow color. Nice sour and tartness. Was totally expecting more hops for some reason. Woody oakiness. Light bitter hops and grass. Aroma is totally nose tickling tart. Really entertaining and pleasantly surprising.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a very light golden straw with a bit of wispy head. Nose is tart lemons, oaky, Belgian yeast, some fruit ester. Taste is very woody, moderate tartness, a sherry/wine grape thing, a bit of barnyard, lemony, finishes a bit dry and quite woody. Good body, not too much carb. Top tier beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle gifted by a friend after they had kept it for some time (exact time unknown). Aroma is very wood and sherry-like with a lot of sour-sweetness going on in the flavour - tastes like itís going to be a sharp finish but itís actually quite soft at the end.

4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Whatís noticeable about the Petrus Aged Sour Ale is the balance between the lactic sourness and the dark cara malts. Americans are new to this category and often the sourness completely dominates the malt. I could see this paired as a dessert beer w/ apricot pie - the sourness offsetting the sweet fruit pie. Overall, this is a global example of what America ought to use as a benchmark.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
11.2oz Bottle. The pour was a lightly cloudy golden color with an average (1-2 finger) white sudsy head that reduced slowly, down to a thin film with a large collar and possessed excellent sheets of sticky lacing.
The aroma was of a light grain malt and a musty Belgian yeast with a note of citrus (lemon), a slight fruity ester (apples and pears), a hint of cask and a mild vinous scent.
The taste was sweetly tart and a tad acetic with some bold fruity overtones from the get go, becoming rather yeasty and a bit sour with a winey cider taste and a light bitter citrus appeal at the end. The flavor lasted and average time after consumption with a slight fruity vinegary taste left behind.
Mouthfeel was light in body with a thin dry texture and a rather prickly carbonation.
Overall this is a fantastic Wild Ale with a ton of sweet-sour flavor along with the perfect influx of fruit, which did a good job of hiding the semi-high ABV... www.facebook.com/KAJIIsBeerReviews
