4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Reviewed 3/6/13. 11.2 oz bottle into a Duvel tulip.
A: Pours a light golden amber color. The head is a one finger white shade. Itís more substantial looking than others in the style, but still fades quickly. Thin splotches of lacing are left on the glass.
S: Thereís good tartness on the nose - better than I expected really, given how low the Petrus Oud Bruin was in sour qualities. The fruit esters here are pretty light; apple, pear, grapes, and maybe some vague citrus. Even touches of honey and pale malts are found.
T: Oh yeah. This one has some good mouth-puckering sourness. Itís definitely acetic/vinegary in nature; however, itís not perfectly integrated within the other (meager) qualities the flavor profile provides. It is balanced well, however. Just like the aroma, there arenít really any cherry fruit qualities, itís pretty much apple/pears/grapes alongside the acetic sourness. It becomes less tart near the finish as some light maltiness and the faintest ípingí of grassy hops come through.
M: Pretty damn light in texture, which is just what I look for in the style. Oak tannins help to dry out some of the acidic zing on the finish and aftertaste, and never come across too harshly. It isnít particularly easy to drink, but it IS easy to sip, and thatís what counts.
O: This one definitely delivers the sour, puckering bite to it - and at a decent price, to boot! I really wish it was fruitier, but thatís just nitpicking. Iíd definitely consider making this one a go-to sour for me.

A beer close to white wine. Intense aromas of citrus and peach which appear again on the palate. Nothing sweet, rather tart and sour. Soft, but very fine carbonation. Enjoyed this a lot,

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sour apples, a bit of vinegar, and an almost fruity character. Not as much vinegar as most sours. I like it.

Smells like and tastes like a fresh batch of wort. Very grainy. I like the beer, but mostly like how it reminds me of brew day when making homebrew. Itís fairly sweet.

A very clear and bright gold. The foam wasnít excessive but has a lot of retaining power. Lacing? For sure.
Geez, this smells good if you are a sour beer fan and donít mind some horse blanket permeating your nose buds.
I am deliberately trying to pull some of that funk out of my first few sips and I can but make no mistake, this oneís all about the sour and quite a bit about the bitter.
On the sour scale shown on the label, 1 to 5, this comes in at a 5. I believe it and I relish in it.
I would call it close to medium bodied with a solid but not outrageous level of carbonation.
Dang this is good. On or at least at the level of your beers from Cantillion, De Cam, Tilquin, Gerard. .
