Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the Ďmother beer,í used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseurís delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

UPDATED: FEB 25, 2005 Bottled. Pours light orange in color just a whisp of a head with no lacing although the carbonation is quite active in the glass. Big sour, vinegar like aromas with notes of an earthy apple cider. Musty sourness is the predominant flavor. The first taste actually mad the top of my throat close up just a bit. Dry spicy aftertaste. The flavor seems to be just a little watery but overall this is a damn good sour ale.

F: white head frothy, not long lasting. C: hazy gold colour. A: wine, earthy yeast, wood, hint of lemon. T: very special dry earthy, vinous, grapefruit, vinegar sourness and dryness on the palate, some woody tones, leather, tart fruit, medium to complex body, good carbonation, nice dry end on the palate, very good one for this style, worth to try.

This beer very similar to the Old Brunes and Flemish Reds of Belgium, except this beer is brewed exclusively with pale malts. It is then aged for two years or more in oak barrels, where it picks up intense, sour aromas and flavors of oak. Michael Jackson, the Beer Hunter, compares this beer to Rodenbach Grand Cru, and it is an apt comparison. This beer is as tart, sour, and refreshing, and every bit as world class as that beer. MJ also states that this is an "adult" beer, for adult tastes, and that you will either love it, or hate it. I loved it the first time I tried it. Petrus Aged Pale pours to a slightly hazy, very pale golden color with a white head that quickly fades, and a soft carbonation. The nose on this beer hits you as soon as you pop the cap. Very pungent, intense sour and oaky aromas pierce the nostrils. The palate is wonderfully tart, sharp, sour, and refreshing, with some pale malt flavors, big notes of oak flavor, and vinous undertones. Petrus Aged Pale finishes with more sour and oaky flavors in a very sharp, very refreshing, acidic, and tangy mouth puckering edge that linger for quite sometime. This is a shocking beer. I was even a bit taken back by it, like one would be after tasting a strong and sharp blue veined cheese. This beer is indeed one for adult tastes and really could be called a pale version of grand cru. The sour and oaky character in this beer dominates from nose to finish, but in a very, very good way if you like that in a beer. Petrus Aged Pale would make the perfect beer to any number of rich dishes. The sharp acid like edge of this beer would cut right through the richest tureen or pate like a hot knife through butter. I enjoy matching Petrus Pale Ale when ever I do a roasted turkey with all the trimmings.

Clear golden with a huge, mega frothy, white head. The aroma is acidic, like apple cider vinegar, with slight yeast and a sour feel. Good malt in the flavor, but the acidic quality is just too overbearing. Very faint wood on the finish. I didnít find this too be too enjoyable, but Iím not a big fan of sours.

Pours a cloudy golden with a bit of a tan hue to it, and a small bubbly head. Aroma is sour but doesnít recall cherries like some other sours Iíve had. This one has more wood, sweat, hay and grass to it. Interesting aroma, but is it good? Tart flavor recalls biting into a lemon wedge, but without the citrus taste. Thereís a fair amount of wood and vinager to the flavor, and this is a little drier than Duchesse. I still think Duchesse was a better beer. This one has a very interesting aroma, but the flavor doesnít back it up. Vinager and wood alone donít wow me, and the texture was slightly thin. Iím still glad I had this. Thanks to Walt for his Aged Pale.

The words "pale" and "Belgian" tricked me into thinking this would be a Tripel, so imagine my surprise upon tasting this sour concoction! Pours a nice medium gold with white head. Nose is a Belgian yeastiness, with hints of the sour to come. Flavor is sour balanced by hints of yeast and peppery spiciness.

Bottle. Pours a brilliant sparkling dark straw with a nice rocky white head. No real lacing to speak of great. Great looking beer though. Great sour aromas with plenty of vingegar, a little lemon and some wood. Great stuff. Flavours are equally sour with lots of green apple tartness and plenty of vinegar. Super complex. Very dry finish similar to champagne. Lively mouthfeel. Great great beer.

Nice sourness in the nose, not too powerful. Head lasts a while. Refreshing tartness in its flavour. Some wood in the aftertaste. Very decent. Moderate carbonation.

Light dingy yellow soapy foamy head (decent for length of aging). Aromas barrel oak, sour apple/cherry ester, honey. Flavors light barrel oak, woody, light honey. Light to medium musky, medium sour, lightly sweet, medium dry and crisp. A decent elixir.
