Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Bottled. Color is hazy gold, with thin head. Nose is citric, very sour. Flavour is a like a good Chinese dish: full of sweet and sour. Aroma islonglasting, well balanced. Nice!

Bottle. Pour a clear golden with a large, white head. Sweet/sour aroma of light malts, barnyard, wood and citrus. Slightly sour flavor with notes of light caramel, wood and citrus. Interesting and tasty.

Thanks to Mike H. Deep gold/copper, clear, white head. Aroma: dry, crackerlike malt, biscuit, tart acidity, floral notes. Flavor: bready/biscuity malt, tart acidity, a little lemon, some strawberry and pear. Nice balance.

Pours hazy straw with a short loose foamy head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, spotty lacing. (3/5) Nose is mild barnyard funk, cidery apple, woody and vinous notes. (8/10) Taste is mild sweet, moderate tart, mild funk. (7/10) Light body, moderate to low carbonation, dry tart funky finish. (4/5) An extremely well-behaved sour/oude bruin that would probably make a great introductory beer for those interested in expanding their horizons to include sours. The taste is actually nowhere near as sour as the aroma would suggest - to the point where I was actually a little disappointed (but a neophyte might be relieved). Pleasant cider and vinous notes are present, and it continues to open up as it warms. The sweetness is quite restrained and the finish moderately dry, make this a very nice sipper. (15/20)

Draft: Poured a golden color with a thick white head. The aroma was citrus and funk. The flavor was very tart, apples, and lots of funk. I didn’t enjoy this at all. Maybe I had a bad one. I’ll re-rate in the future if I feel differently.

Pours a transparent golden yellow with minimal head. Aroma of sour fruit and wood. Pretty sour on the palate with hints of malt in the background. Interesting beer.

Nice golden-blond color with a stabile creamy white head. Aroma is crisp and refresching complex. It has hints of wood, and loads of sour stone fruits. also a faint earthy touch, some wet wood, grass, herbs and hops. One thing is sure, it smels cleaner then an authentic gueuze. The taste is very well ballanced, it is again very crisp, malty and lemoney. The beer has a medium mouthfeel and an elegant smoothness. It has a very refresching caracter and a very nice and quit complex afthertaste.

Pours a pale yellow that is clear except for odd big bubbles sticking to the glass. Head is white and thin. The aroma is very sour and reminds me somewhat of wine, with vinegar, lemon, and some spices. The taste remains very sour and tart as expected. It contains more vinegar, spices, banana, and hints of clove. Long sour aftertaste. It has a light body, with a sticky, acidic texture, while being about average in carbonation. To enjoy this you must be a fan of this style. You will then be quite happy. If not, you should probably skip this one.
