Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Pour is just a bit lighter than the double IPA sitting next to it. Starts with a light, even foam and is very bubbly. Aroma is redolent of sour beer (DUH) also with hints of citrus and oak. The flavor is difficult to classify this evening. Definitely sour up front, with a satiny mouthfeel and a hoppy bitter finish. I would compare this to a dry champagne, though made with malts and aged in oak (and obviously sour). That may be a ridiculous comparison, but that is where my mind immediately went. Very good beer.

Bière d’une grande complexité. Robe trouble. Fut de chêne et notes boisées très intense. Longueur et équilibre parfait. Grande bière de dégustation.

Pours a light amber. Aroma is sweet with hints of wood shavings. Taste is quite sour, although a secondary sweetness can be noticed at the back of the tongue. The body is medium with average carbonation. The finish is long, sour and somewhat astringent.

Zeer goed bier.

Butelka. Barwa krystalicznie złota, duża biała piana. Aromat wręcz lambikowy. Spory funk wpadający w ocet jabłkowy. Po zamieszaniu eksploduje owocami, kwiatami. Nawet doszukałem się tam bardzo dojrzałego banana. Sam aromat jest intensywny i mocno zachęca do wzięcia łyka. Smak lekko kwaśny, bardzo wytrawny i słodki w charakterze octu winnego. W smaku sporo przejrzałych owoców i kwiatów. Początkową octowości po chwili schodzi na dalszy plan, powodując że aged pale robi się bardzo przystępny i pijalny, za razem prezentując degustacyjną złożoność. Posmak krótki, wytrawny i lekko kwaśny. Pozostawia na języku lekką taniczność. Bardzo dobre piwo.

Blonde dorée, carbo moyenne, petit collet persistant. Aromes aigres, légèrement boisés, pommes vertes. Saveurs sûre qui persiste longuement et qui est assez franche.

Bottle, pours golden with a white head. Nice citric sour aroma. Taste had lots of lemon, and not much else really. Very short finish. It’s not offensive, but just lemon sour and not much else. Underwhelming.

Nicely aromatic, with sour hints on the nose. Clear golden appearance. Sour flavor with slight bitter undertones and after taste. Sticky mouthfeel. Overall a pleasant sour beer, that I’d drink again, but not seek out.
