COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

Sour funk over woody fruitiness with an awesome aroma and crisp barnyard finish...this stuff is awesome.

A very clear and bright gold. The foam wasn’t excessive but has a lot of retaining power. Lacing? For sure. Geez, this smells good if you are a sour beer fan and don’t mind some horse blanket permeating your nose buds. I am deliberately trying to pull some of that funk out of my first few sips and I can but make no mistake, this one’s all about the sour and quite a bit about the bitter. On the sour scale shown on the label, 1 to 5, this comes in at a 5. I believe it and I relish in it. I would call it close to medium bodied with a solid but not outrageous level of carbonation. Dang this is good. On or at least at the level of your beers from Cantillion, De Cam, Tilquin, Gerard. . More please!

UPDATED: AUG 11, 2004 Honeyed lemon. Thick and sticky white foam. Attractive aroma of lemon rind, brett, and rose petals. Deeper swirls brings out sweetish malts and rich toasted oak. Soft but creamy carbonation. Iron comes and goes, with continual acidity and a restrained brett flare. Finishes slightly moist and sweet with a gorgeously harmonic culmination of oak and toasted malt hulls. Absolutely amazing.

UPDATED: JUL 16, 2003 I remember MJ's notes calling this a love it or hate it beer and that certainly shows below. I thought it was outstanding. Wonderful orange/lemon and ginger in the nose and on the palate, while the sourness in the finish is extremely refreshing. A little musty and perfumey in the aroma while I also get some nutmeg spice in the taste. Predomainantly sweet, could even verge on syrupy, but the dryness in the finish strikes a great balance. I received this as a trial offer, maybe I;ll join the great Belgian beer club.

sampled 7/03 Ok. I'll admit this beer is way over my head as far as my experience with a with a wide range of beers. I had never had anything quite like this. the yeast yields a near cider fruit flavor. the mouthfeel is still full and the finish is fruity and light with a citric aftertaste. The whole flavor is absolutely out of this world and the drinkability is second to none.

Bottled. Deep golden, clear, near no head. Acidic and dry. Fresh, tart and firm a lot of lactic acid. Well balanced and simply wonderful!

Ooh. what a surprise, the bottle doesn’t say this is a Flemish. I really like this beer; very tart and biting; no subtlety here!

Strawberry blonde fizzy light gold pink clear color with a foamy head. Citrus strawberry flavor with a hint of cherries.
