Aged? Many beers have a long maturation, but this one has only 24-36 months in oak barrels. Pale? This beer has an old gold to bronze color, rather than the burgundy more common in the breweries of West Flanders. This is the ‘mother beer,’ used in various quantities to blend with the other Petrus beers, and to give them their unique and very distinctive taste. This mother beer is rather sour with a bite like the best Brut Champagnes. A connoisseur’s delight! The only one of its kind on the U.S. market.

33cl bottle @ Geroen tasting. Pours with a pineau de charente color, minimal head. Nose is very astringent, caskwood, oak, & sour green apples. Aroma more of the same, but in a blast. Amazing wood aroma. Superb sour taste, mellow enough to enjoy, but very ’potent’. No remarks on the palate.

Pours a clear golden yellow with a thin white ring. Light carbonation and some lacing. Crisp strong aroma of tart citrus. Taste is tart, sour apple with a nice mouth feel. Finish is a bit dry and grassy flavored. Pretty pleasant and enjoyable.

33 cl. best before 25/08/17, aperta il 13/09/16. Dorata limpida, schiuma bianca di media persistenza. Aroma legnoso, erbaceo fresco, pelle conciata, mela verde, uva bianca, lievemente vinosa, malto d’orzo. In bocca attacca acidula, poi in successione mela verde, uva bianca, crosta di pane, amaro erbaceo e legno secco, leggerissimo malto d’orzo, leggermente vinosa. Corpo medio-leggero, non molto carbonata.

From The Terminus on the French/Belgian border. Aroma of stale urinals but thankfully goes upwards from there. A good lasting head over a lively golden body, distinctive barnyard aroma and mouldy cheese continues on the nose. Taste is sour with some saccharin, not too challenging, thinnish for its strength but up there with the best. A good solid 4.

33cl bottle at home. Pours a light hazy golden colour with a soapy layer of foam on top which recedes to a thin line of foam that curls up the glass. Aroma of grapes, vinous sourness, champagne, apple, vanilla. Taste is medium sweet, light bitter, medium acidic with a soft drybitter finish. Notes of apple, grapes, wine, slight caramel. Texture is sticky, medium bodied with good carbonation.
