Pours a deep burgundy wine color with aroma of cherries soaked in alcohol. Taste is of tart cherries with a slight cask flavor. The alcohol comes through the beer leaving a lasting sour flower flavor on the palate. Definitely a sour beer true to the style.

On tap at Ridgewood (Raleigh) Caveat - I once had a Sam Adam Strawberry Blonde without realizing it was laced (poisoned) with strawberry. Since that time I have been very critical of blatantly fruited beers. More cheery lifesaver than Smith Brothers cherry cough drop, but still a rather disturbing thing to do to a beer. Two thumbs down. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft. Nice redish black looks. Aroma of household cleaner. Great lacing. Head. Actually more like cough drop medicine. Hope it makes me better ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark ruby red pour with one finger of pink head. Weird nose, slight off character on the front and tart raspberry seeds. Cherry lifesavers in the mouth. Tannic at the beginning, light tartness.

Some might find it sweet and cough syruoy but I like it. Not sour enough but like a sour cherry candy.

31/III/13 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent) @ Mattie’s place - BB: n/a (2013-286)

Clear ruby red to purple beer, irregular yellowish head, dissipates immediately, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: cherry candy, sugary, syrup, almonds. MF: soft carbon, medium to light body. Taste: sweet and sugary, cherry candy, somewhat lemony, bitter hoppy touch. Aftertaste: sourish, lemony touch, syrup, cherry candy, little bitter, some chloride.

Dogbrick (7243) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - APR 10, 2013
Bottle at Winking Lizard. The beer pours a dark reddish color with a medium foamy pinkish-white head that evaporates steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of sweet cherries and grain. Medium body with a mildly tart cherry flavor with a bit of grainy malt in the background. The finish is slightly tart with a cherry aftertaste. Decent, but kind of a poor man’s Belgian Red overall (props to JaBier for the analogy).

Dirty pink-cream head, medium if rather stable over spectacular garnet-cardinal red beer, clear. Childrens’ cherrysweets’ (poepekes) aroma; cherry essence dissolved in a splash of rainwater; faintly smoked. Smokiness returns somehow in the flavour. Rather than artificial, the cherryflavour strikes me as concentrated, liqueurish, if still pretty sweet. Gets drier, quite woody for an instant, before returning to yet more sweetness. Very little sour tastewise, but there is a certain acidity to be perceived. Very fruit-slick; medium bodied, ever so slightly sticky despite the quite present CO², tittilating. It’s not bad, but leaves me unconvinced. It reminds me above all of Rodenbach Alexander, a beer which I’ve always considered to be the best way to ruin a great Rodenbach Grand Cru.

ruby color, aroma of tart cherries, same flavors, slight oak notes, not very sour at all, to sweet
