COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Petrus Aged Red is constructed from a base of Double Brown Ale. 15% Petrus Aged Pale is added to provide a dry character to the brew and give it a slight sour essence. Finally the brewer adds fresh cherries, which are evident in the rich thick head. Petrus Aged Red is a perfect blend of sweet and sour with a cherry undertone which makes this brew remarkably drinkable at 8.5% ABV.

Pours a dark reddy-brown with a light red tinted head. Nose is a bit of balsamic vinegar, some benzaldehydey sort of cherry. Flavor is subtley sweet and a bit tangy. Itís got some really great, rich, cherry flavor, a bit of caramel. Not much sourness to speak of at all, but thereís a little bit of tartness on the mid to late palate. Some vanilla flavor, no oaky tannins. Medium to heavy body, pretty oily and viscous. Interesting beer. Less sour than I expected, massive cherry flavor. If I didnít know it was natural cherry I would have guess it was artificial.

330mL bottle from Slowbeer. BB30/10/16 Rather attractive looking beer - deep, clear ruby body with creamy beige foam lingering atop. Moderate intensity nose, quite intriguing; sour cherry, marzipan, almond meal, toffeed malts, dried & vinous (red) fruits, old oak. Body is quite thick, sticky, low carbonation gives it a somewhat velvety texture - didnít pay attention to the 8.5% abv tag before drinking! Starts rather sweet - Kirsch, cherry cola, marzipan, chewy dark toffee, becomes more vinous towards the finish, subtle oak, some balsamic undertones too with a touch of tartness to accompany. Rather liked this one - there is a slight "artificial" cherry syrup quality about it, but the base beer adds a welcome complexity & depth to the beer.

Bottle during Brussels vacation. Deep red with brownish red head. Aroma and taste is sweet, candy cherries, extract, tart despite the sweetness, very well hidden alcohol. My notes says that is is clearly a sour oud bruin in the bottom of this beer.

Pours like coke with super fizzy, carbonated head and lacing, and dark color. Smells like Cherry Coke, acid, and alcohol. Tastes like Cherry Coke, acid, and alcohol. Some sourness and more complexity in the finish. Well this was different.

Pours clear, very deep red body with a brown hue. The head is a bit small, beige with some pink in the mix. Good lacing. Sweet fruity and strong aroma of sweet cherries, cherry pits and marzipan. The cherries are the main component of the strong flavour as well, but now with a more sour touch. Also bitter cherry pits and marzipan. Or maybe itís bitter almonds and sweet cherry pits. Whatever. There is lots of sweetness in the taste, but itís elegantly backed up by both a light bitterness and a firm touch of acidity. Itís full-bodied, creamy, and with a quite soft carbonation. A more-ish, drinkable, crisp and refreshing brew!

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines. Pours luvverly. Taste of artificial cherry syrup, gently leading to a stoney cherry acceptableness. A really acidic backdrop: acidic cream. Cannot believe this is 8.5%. Whoops. 11.30 on a Monday is perhaps not the right time for this. In any case I necked it. Wobbles between quite good musky, kriek and fairly sour Sour.

Een heerlijke volle donkere kriek. Duidelijk echte kriekensmaak. Weinig schuim.
