Petrus Aged Red is constructed from a base of Double Brown Ale. 15% Petrus Aged Pale is added to provide a dry character to the brew and give it a slight sour essence. Finally the brewer adds fresh cherries, which are evident in the rich thick head. Petrus Aged Red is a perfect blend of sweet and sour with a cherry undertone which makes this brew remarkably drinkable at 8.5% ABV.

Bottle, 33cl, Geers. Pours dark red, clear. Light brown head. Nose of cherries, (artificial) candy, "poepegatjes", some lactic acid, slightly vinous aroma, massive cherry aroma somehow overwhelming. Rather sweet, definitely masks the sourness of the perfect aged pale. Would be better with a different ratio! Lacks complexity and wood but is certainly better than its more commercial counterparts.

Reddish brown in color. Aroma of cherries, sourness, woodiness, and a bit like cough syrup. Pleasant sweet-sour flavor. Very drinkable.

Bottle from the 2016 National Winter Ales Festival. Reddish-brown pour with a beige head. Has a nose of currants, cherries, prunes and red apple which eases nicely into the flavour. Tasty stuff.

Delicious sour cherry pie filling aroma from a medium brown and ruby body with a thin off white head. The flavor is exactly like the aroma. It’s like drinking a cherry pie with a touch of sour woodiness. The sweetness is strong but stays clear of being cloying. This gets better with every sip and is dangerously drinkable at 8.5% ABV. While it stands on it’s own, this is an ultimate dessert beer. This could go with vanilla ice cream or dark chocolate anything. I gotta try that out to be sure though. :)

Bottle consumed at home. It pours clear deep ruby - brown with a medium beige head. The nose is earthy, toasted stuff, tangy dark fruits, plum, berry, big Dr Pepper character, bakewell tart and marzipan. The taste is slightly tart, tangy dark fruits, sweet glacé cherry, Dr Pepper, cherry cola, cherry bakewell sort of syrupy, stewed berry and some alcohol on the back end. Medium body and moderate, yet soft carbonation. Interesting, but too sweet for my liking.

Drank at the P.Box in Minooka, PA on tap poured into a damn’d fancy glass. Has a nice subtle cherry aroma, pours a deep, dark red, with a bit of white head. A bit sweet for a red, due to the cherries tastes more like a Flanders red.
