Petrus Aged Red is constructed from a base of Double Brown Ale. 15% Petrus Aged Pale is added to provide a dry character to the brew and give it a slight sour essence. Finally the brewer adds fresh cherries, which are evident in the rich thick head. Petrus Aged Red is a perfect blend of sweet and sour with a cherry undertone which makes this brew remarkably drinkable at 8.5% ABV.

A light, bubbly, ruby red pour. Aroma smells strongly of tart cherry, a bit monochromatic. That quality permeates the entire experience of this beer: cherries are up front in the flavor, and the sour follows quickly. The finish won't decide between bitter and sour, and the ale never really presents itself. Despite the criticism, it is a well-made beer with complexities that begin to present themselves toward the bottom of the bottle. Worth trying.

Bottle from Terre de Boissons Calais and drunk at home. Belgian Rating 1000. One of my favourite styles. Really amazing I got to 1000 Belgian beers. Only behind England and USA. Such a small country yet produces so many great beers and most of my true favourites are from Belgium. Clear very deep red. Lasting beige head. Some sweetish cherry aroma. Touch of almond. It’s not exactly sour, but compared with some of the sweet beers I’ve had, it’s more rounded. It’s extremely drinkable. It almost sums up Belgium. It’s a bit weird, but it is so drinkable and likeable. They make beers that make me want to drink them. I love Belgium. Attractive cherries and other red fruits. Some sweetness. Some dryness on the finish. It’s utterly drinkable and I’m pleased I picked it as my 1000th Belgian beer.

Murky deep red - amber beer, good pale tan head. Nice maraschino cherry nose. Palate is light, semi dry and mildly crisp. The malt base is mildly sweet with a touch of cream. Great cherry - strong but mellow, no acid. Maraschino and black cherry in here. Slight bitterness in the finish. Nice one.

Bottle with expiry date 02.2017. Dark brown colour, minimal head. Aroma is quite much vanilla and cherry, a bit of dry red wine. Alcohol well hidden. Lightly sour, light sweetness. Medium carbonation. Good, although could be less sweet.

Butelka, 330 ml. Barwa rubinowa, piwo klarowne.

Purchased in Dillon, CO - 750ml bottle. Tasted in shaker. Aroma is sweet and sour - berries, cherry, alcohol. Appearance is deep red / copper, medium which sustained head. Flavour starts off slightly sour but finishes very sweet. Like a cold Glühkriek with more alcohol but far sweeter finish. One is enough for me.

Not a big fan of sours in general, but this full bodied, high ABV brew is more on the sweet side and very fruity. Enjoyable for one, probably that’s enough.

What an aroma. Just like a dark chocolate cherry cordial. Has a similar sugary sweetness. If they labeled this a cherry cordial beer, if would be aptly named.

Sweet maraschino cherry aroma with caramel candy, bread, raisin, spice. Pours a dark garnet red color that is see through with small bubbly white head Sweet syrupy cherry flavor with light spice and subtle sourness. Medium sticky bodied, medium co2, lingering sugary sweetness that sticks to palette. Half a bottle is enough for me. Too sweet for my taste. I wouldn't turn it down if offered but wouldn't be able to drink very much. Like liquid candy ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours in dark red-amber body with low almost none head. Aroma has strong cherry character, burned sugar notes, woody. Taste has overwhelming sweet cherry sweetness, almost like ripped sour cherries, little bit artificial on the taste. If this is coming only from fresh cherries, it is really strong. Little bit evident alcohol in the after taste. Body is full, medium to high carbonation, oily.
