Petrus Blond Ale is a top-fermented beer. Brewed with pure spring water and carefully selected malts and hops. This blond beer is soft and full of flavour and preferably served cool.

Pours brilliant gold with a very full head. Recedes slowly and rocky. Nose is bready malt and slight citrus hops. Also, a bit of soapiness lingering in the background. Sweet, moderate carbonation, smooth, with the soapy hops on the finish. Also , slightly metallic. Decent blond ale but unremarkable and slightly off character.

White head change quick into lacing. Clear yellow body. Smell sweets, malts, spices, grains, soap, orange, tangerine, apricot and a hint of alcohol. Taste malts, grains, rice, hint of fruit and spices Short soft malty sweet bitter aftertaste. Low carbo and low to mid body. Strange blonde not well balanced.

I expected a lot more, after a friend raved about this brewery’s double brown. This has a nice taste up front, but something disturbingly metallic in the aftertaste.

UPDATED: NOV 20, 2010 12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Fairfax, VA. Pours a hazy orange color with floating particules. Medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of syrupy peach and pear with apple and faint spice. The taste is caramel, cotton candy, spice, citrus, stone fruits, raisins, faint candi sugar and spice. Medium bodied. Fairly nice beer. Hey, this is the 200th rating of this beer! Hooray!

Decent body when poured from a tap, okay head. Aroma of cereals and hops. Taste was mostly cereal, a little more complex than usual but nothing too exciting. Somewhere in the middle of the pack for Belgian blondes.

11/6/10. Clear, golden pour with a fluffy off-white head that sticks with a few millimeters. Grainy, fruity aroma with a hint of smoke. Sweet, buttery flavor that tastes just like one of those generic bright yellow/orange butterscotch disks. I don’t mind it, but I have to think its infected.

Golden body, almost nothing that you can call a head. Smell is earthy, light citrus, something sweet, a bit like pilsener, very plain, nothing interesting. Way to light carbonation. Taste is bread/yeast, citrus, something sweet comes up. A pilsener with some sugar inside... Not my beer for sure, expected more from this one. Maybe a bad bottle... Over a year before it should go bad...

On tap @ Petrus Cafe, Ieper. Standard blonde-looking body with a medium creamy top. Nose is candy sugar, ale yeast and hints of caramel. Fairly drinkable, but all in all a pretty boring "Belge Speciale". Not much to say about it.
