2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Dark fruit is notable in the sugary sweet aroma. Dark brown body is topped by a shy, off-white head that recedes rapidly to ring. Flavour as aroma suggests is overly sweet with some fruity notes. Body is a bit thin but carbonation strong. Bottle (entered from notes - likely sampled in 2006).

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 33 cl, BBE 03.12.2014. Pours clear mahogny in color with a frothy slightly tan head. Lots off nuttyness, some dark chocolate, sweet malty tones and dark bready dough as well in aroma. Awesome. Sweet malty notes with some nuttyness in taste, thereís a lot of darkness in the taste. Smooth mouthfeel and is highly enjoyable to drink. Has even a slightly vinous ending, but just a bit, as the focus is more on the dark bready maltyness. Nice and tasty brew.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tried at cellar temperature and into its own tulip. Fiery, ruby chestnut body, hazed over and well conditioned with very fine carbonation. Plume of sandy beige foam atop settles to an inch and leaves a thick web of lace. Sticky, caramelised dates and prunes, sultanas, toffee, fresh baked rye bread, proved dough, oak and a little dank cellar moss make up the sultry aroma. Lighter than expected on the palate but still edging medium and very well rounded. Carbonation is low making it smooth to oily and slightly viscous in the finish, Sweet, caramelised, savoury fruit mince flavours dominate with a hint of fortified Viognier in the linger. Bready, toasted and biscuity malt on the mid-palate with a touch of oak and vanillin in late. Prunes, dates, sultanas like the nose; a burnt sugary note gives it a mild, tannic bitterness that also lasts between sips. Very quaffable overall. Not complex, but well crafted and approachable. One to be enjoyed at room temperature me thinks. A solid Dubbel! (33cL, BB 12/12/13, Cellarbrations Carlisle)
