Bottle as shown. Pours a cloudy copper with medium frothy head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is caramel and brown sugar. Medium mouthfeel with strong caramel and candy sugar with light spice finish. A good Belgian.

Not bad. This reminded me of a traditional Dubbel. Malty bready aroma. Bread crust brown color with a low head that disappated quickly. Full palate that had a smooth character. Nice maltiness with mild sweetness. A slight hops presence but not much. One of their better beers but not overly unique.

Poured from an undated brown 33cl bottle into a St. Bernardus snifter, including all of the dark, muddy sediment that didin’t remained fixed to the bottom of the bottle. The beer was still rather clear, dark brown in color, with a small tan head. The head soon died to a partial top coat and ring but left the glass nicely coated with lacing with each tilt of the glass. Sweet and fruity aroma. Sniffing this is the only way one gets a hint that the ABV is over 4-5% (except for some warming). The flavor is sweet, too much so, with a slight buttery note that some would take as a defect. Dark fruit over medium and medium-dark malts with a hints of smoke, cherries, and sherry. M: Full smooth feel with a bit of astringency and mild alcohol harshness. O: OK, but compared poorly to the Val-Dieu Dubbel that preceded it.

Bottle... Poured into my Orval chalice a deep reddish brown with a modate forming khaki head. Nose of raisins and dark toasted, caramel-like sugars. Tasted of major raisin and prune tones along with other dark fruits. Mildly vinous, thick and full bolides although it became a little more drying towards the finish. Malty sweetness, caramel, toffee-nut. Low bitterness overall pretty fruity and sweet.

330 ml bottle. A284. BB 11/10/13. From bierzwerg.de.
Dark transparent reddish brown colour with a small light tan head. Sweet dark fruity aroma with caramel, brown sugar, raisins and even some chocolate. The flavour is rather nice with the loads of dark fruits, raisins, plums, mild hops and caramel malt. Mild bitterness in aftertaste. Not bad. Quite rich too. I could have another one.

A good brew but not over the top great. Aroma is caramel, bread, toast. Taste is that belgian buz you get with a little oakiness. Finishes is mostly dry and pleasant. Overall, good.

Bottle - Brown sugar, caramel, malty and sweet. Cloudy brown with a brown head. Very sweet brown sugar, some raisins and dark fruit but really the syrupy malts dominate completely. In the right mood I would love this, but it is to sweet, malty and rich for casual consumption.

Stronger malts, some sweet, slightly burnt caramel. Then, I’m getting spring water, no-- hold on-- that’s not spring water.... it’s pure spring water.

Bottle from a Delhaize in Leuven. Poured a clear amber-brown body with a huge, lasting whtie head. Caramel malt in the nose, dusty, slightly eggy too. Pleasant, simple malty taste, some tobacco, definitely avoids being too sweet. While definitely not wild in any way, and doesn’t stand out in the crowd, this is a flawless, enjoyable beer.
