It poured a dark liquid with some reddish tones, with a small foam that left a nice lacing. The aroma was fruity, sweet and sour. The flavor was similar, sour, fruity and sweet with some red berries.
2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 madquacker (854) - Canberra ACT, AUSTRALIA - JUN 28, 2009
Spices come through in the noise over a sweet light body. Quite unexpected. Good but not great.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1617) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 27, 2009
Poured out a large fizzy light tan crown with a small amount of both retention and lacing, brown brew. The aroma is a bit of a let down but still good. On the weak side from what I expected: weak cherry, a bit musty, brown sugar and something vinegary. I’m disappointed so far. The flavour is sour and dry, quite tannic with some dark berry of some sort of another, a watery tannic, dusty, hell, there just isn’t much here. Starts off sort of smooth and goes tannic in a hurry. Finishes about the same with a slight brown sugar end that gets stomped on by the sourness. If I need a Flemish Sour I won’t reach for this. And if this is my only choice, I won’t reach at all.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 BeerBaby (76) - , Florida, USA - JUN 22, 2009
Aroma is kind of a sour mash smell. Dark amber with small head. Light, lively palate with kind of a metalic, salt, sour taste.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Madsnp (892) - Vinens Verden - Odense C, DENMARK - JUN 15, 2009
Bottle. Deep brown coloured with a reddish glow and a nice lacing beige head. Aromas of leather, sour fruit, raisins and balsamic vinegar. Flavour of cherries, sugar, a bit tart and some wood.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 SFLpunk (134) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - JUN 14, 2009
11.2 oz brown glass pry-top bottle. Label stamped "39849."
Appearance: Poured into a Maudite tulip. Thin, fast receding off-white/khaki head atop a dark cherry wood, clear brew.
Nose: Sour cherries, baked oats, munich malt, ozone, top soil.
Palate: Clean and crisp acidity keep this beer from every being "malty" despite its color. It almost has czech-pilsner-like edges, with sour raisins and sour strawberries, dried cranberry and dried cherry flavors. There’s a little woodiness that I suspect comes out more as the beer warms. A few oxi-notes, but nothing really caramelized.
Notes: A really nice sour brown. A good intro to the world of oud bruin. Not too exotic, not too extreme. Great balance with good carbonation levels and clean edges.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 smith4498 (2151) - Miami, Florida, USA - JUN 12, 2009
Pours cola brown with tan head. Aroma of sour cherries with a touch of barnyard. Very mild tart cherry and doughy flavor. Not really sour. Thin mouthfeel and a little on the watery side.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Cirrhosis (887) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 11, 2009
Ok when I first started to review this beer I thought it was a brown ale since that’s what it’s called on the label and I was thinking for a brown ale this udder crap, but then I realized it was a sour this means it got slightly better now that I realized it tasted the way it was suppose to but I still hate it because I hate this style. The gas that exploded out of my bottle when first opened had the yuck stink of barf WTF!!! Brew pours a very dark brown and has just a small film floating on top, looks like flat root beer. Thank gawd the stink from the bottle has left, brew has a very sweet and sour style aroma with hints of metallic and a sugary candy dominates. Flavor is very light once again very sweet and has sour/vinegar notes to it caramel starts to come out when warmer. For me the mouth feel is overly carbonated and to thin. This is a boring unappealing brew and I see no reason to ever drink it again.
