COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Dark ruby red – red as wine. The style is also called the Burgundy of Flanders, and is a very typical and common beer in West Flanders
Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour ‘mother beer’ with fresh brewed sweeter beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. A discovery! The best in its style! Light in alcohol, exciting complex flavors and tastes come to the forefront.
Although serving cold is recommended, taking time to drink it will release more aromas towards the end of your glass.

UPDATED: APR 21, 2013 UPDATE (2013-02-27): Please be cautious as there seems to be some wild bottle variations. Some of the bottles from my case tasted like skunky mushrooms (not good) while others were much less problematic with an enjoyable sour. I’m taking down my rating from 3.4 to 2.7 only to emphasize that.

Pours reddish brown with a nice layer of white foam that leaves pretty lacing patterns. Nose is pretty tame with light balsamic notes and maybe a little cherry. Mouthfeel is thinner than expected but at least carbonation is just right so it doesn’t enhance that perception. It ends up bone dry which I appreciate. Overall a light and refreshing drink. Not bad at all, just not up there. Oh and I forgot to mention, this is not sour to me. Only the tinyest sour shows up mid-palate.

330ml bottle. Red-brown beer with a small but stable off-white head. Nose is sweet caramel malts with a light woody red wine vinegar presence. Taste is sweet toasty malts with a mild sour tartness that dissipates the further down the glass you get. It is sweeter than Rodenbach’s Flemish red ales. Medium bodied with a flattish carbonation. Very drinkable.

Bottle fairly clear brown with some reddish edges and highlights livel quick off-white head quickly settling out Woody slightly tart aroma of some cider and some faint metallic hints Basically a stale tasting slightly sour brown ale Disappointing Dry finish

Part of the Petrus Belgian Sour Power 6-Pack - $22.99 at Bullock’s Wine & Spirits in Marietta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a full charge of khaki-colored froth. Modest lacing.

Smell: Lightly sweetish, lightly tart-scented nose with touches of chocolaty, caramelly maltiness paired with an acetic, vinous, cherry-like quality that melds and meshes in my mind to be described as ’purple’ flavoring.

Taste: Brown maltiness hinting softly of chocolate, sweetish caramel and toast giving way to encroaching earthy woodsy tones and a plum wine, lightly balsamic, cherryesque accent. Relatively easy-going, mellow acidity. Mildly sour and dry on the fairly clean finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Slight tongue-coating action present.

Overall: Not particularly displeasing, just a little ho-hum and while though a different beer, .

clear ruby tinged briwn with offwhite head collapsing to a lacing. lightly tart, tannins, slight smoke, red fruit on nose. initial tartness and red wine vinegar replaced by sweeter malt and acidic red fruit with a fairly tart yet brief finish.

Draft sample at the Thirsty Monk Pub & Brewery in Asheville, NC; deep reddish-brown color with minimal tan head. Aroma notes of sour malt, faint cherries, some sugar and tad oak. Taste adds some darker notes of caramel and dark fruits. Light-medium body, low carbonation, soft with light tanic-sweet finish. Nice enough lighter sour ale.

The colour is red/brown, with a beige head. There are no outspoken or extraordinary flavors. There is a slight sourness that is well-balanced with the bitterness. Overall it’s not bad, but the taste is a bit plain for me.

A mellow oude bruin. Sweetness is quite low but sourness as well. A bit watery. Ok.

Deep bronze pour, tan head, little lace. Nose is Belgian yeast, on the wild side. Sour. Middle is...flat; slightly watery medium roasted malt, weak sweet tart flavor lurking. Finish is bittersweet. Not bad, just expected more

Did not enjoy this one at all. Thin bodied, rusty tasting and weakly sour... bought this along with a Petrus Aged Red, which was quite a different story and good.
