Dark ruby red – red as wine. The style is also called the Burgundy of Flanders, and is a very typical and common beer in West Flanders
Created by a secret blend of the aged and sour ‘mother beer’ with fresh brewed sweeter beer, this beer produces a sour-sweet balance, set off by the underlying bitterness of the hops. A discovery! The best in its style! Light in alcohol, exciting complex flavors and tastes come to the forefront.
Although serving cold is recommended, taking time to drink it will release more aromas towards the end of your glass.

Quite large beige head that disappears pretty fast. Nice dark amber, red-brown color. The smell is lightly sour, but also a little bit sweet and a little bit wood. It doesn’t taste very sour, only a little hint of sour I would say. Despite the low ABV it has a pretty nice body and good carbonation.

33 cL bottle. Aroma of caramel malt and sour dark fruit. Color was ruby tinged brown, with a beige head that was furious and stayed. Definite sour note as the glass approaches the lips. Thin to medium bodied. Near creamy, from moderate carbonation. Not all that sweet, and there is a thrilling sour note running through it. Very pleasant. The malty sweetness is fairly balanced by the sour and light bitter. Not tremendously complex, but much more so than many. It really is nice to have in the mouth. The finish is touch of oak, dark fruit skin, touch of sour, a hint of bitter. Just excellent. Refreshing.

Deep reddy brown. Bready aroma, Anna detects sourness too. Watery, only an occasional sour taste. Much better after it warms, but still a bit disappointing.

Snifter draft at Taco Mac in Chattanooga. Dark reddish brown color with moderate off-white head that diminished slowly. Complex citrus and spice aroma. Medium body with smooth texture. Same complex citrus and spice flavor with a moderate sweet finish. Interesting brew.

Bottle poured a clear dark copper brown with a lasting creamy amber head. Aromas of cherry, oak, carmel and a hint of tobacco. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of carmel, oak and light fruittiness with a crisp slightly tart finish.

Bottled, 330ml at The Anchor, Birmingham. Mahogany with cream head. Sharp and tangy with a sweet fruity aside note. Fullish on the palate, there is a tartness that gives it a twangy edge. Pretty decent.

I don’t think I’ve had a ’Flanders Red Ale’ before, but if this beer is representative, I can’t say I like the style. Brown beer with a hint of redness and minimal head. Sour cherry aroma and flavor. Dry acidic finish. Overall, seems fairly one-dimensional and lacking in complexity.

A dark clear mahogany brown with a thick receeding moka head. A nice aroma of ground cherries, light caramel, and light lactic notes. In mouth, a rather light oud bruin, with light sourish notes, some lemon juice, cherries, very short in mout. 250 mL bottle from a gift pack LCBO 2005, BB 16-06-06.
