I found myself really enjoying this and pleasantly suprised. A sharp aroma, almost vinous in stature it reminded me of sour cherries somewhat. Appearance was reddish brown. Flavor was oaky, sour, cherry tart, and tannic. VERY lovely beer that I will get again and again.

Pours from the bottle a deep reddish brown with a beige, slightly fluffy head that sticks around for a while. Plenty of nice lacing in the glass. Slightly sour red wine aroma. Like the aroma, the sour presence in the flavor is mild and quite enjoyable, with a subtle bit of cherry in the malt. Not a complete pucker of a brew as far as the palate goes. Just a really well balanced sour brown. If you don’t typically reach for this style, you might want to rethink and give this one a try. Certainly more subdued than the deliciously evil, super-sour LaFolie Kevin from Paducah mentioned in his review.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2010 On tap at the Sharp Edge Creekhouse. The pour is nice dark brown but not opaque. It also possesses a dark orangish tinge. The head is a froth of off white. The aroma is not strong but it does have fruity or berry hints floating around the ambient air. The flavor starts with an impressive, but likable, musty taste bud appeal. As you swallow, it turns slightly sour. This is not as sour or sweet as the other Flemish I have had, Roden Classic. This is much milder in the tart department, more mansuetude than I expected. Very well behaved, gentlemanlike manners. Mild and repeatable. Lacks any bitter palate. A friendly beer that is easy to enjoy. The carbonation is mild but pleasantly present. The finish of this brew is amicable at the least. You can drink many of these and never know it had alky in there. Overall an interesting entry, no worries with this beer.

Enjoyed via 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a deep brown with a slight off-white head. Nose of sour cherries, malt, and a touch of dark fruit. Palate of more sour cherries, a touch of caramelly malt, and a bit of residual sweetness. A dry finish makes this a tremendously easy drinker. An excellent and traditional interpretation of a Belgian classic style.

250 ml bottle. Beautiful reddish brown body with a big off-white head. Strong and complex aroma with cellar notes, sour fruit and candy sugar with cellar notes. Flavor is a bit sweet and sour, malty, candy sugar, acidic, wood, dry fruit, roast and spicy. Very delicate and complex.

Clear dark dark ruby brown with a thin foamy head with lots of lace. Interesting aroma with earthy toffee and oak sourness, with a small smidgeon tof Chardonnay and toast. Flavor has a light sour tone that is packed full of flavor. Nice earthy sweet toffee with soft grape esters and a gentle oak tone. Very light chocolate cereal tones before the toffee comes in with an oaked sourness that is slightly tart but mildly refreshing. Has nice sweetness with subdued balancing bitterness.

This beer is tied with Monk’s for my favorite Flemish Ale to date. It features a lot of cherry aroma and flavor with a more subdued tartness and acidity.

Pours ruby with a 3-4 finger off-white head. The aroma is oaky malty, with nuts, bourbon, brown sugar, port, merlot, and some funk. This tastes initially like a slightly sweet Flemish sour, but gains a solid merlot flavor profile and palate feel, coupled with some oaky malts and berries. Very nice.

Pours deep burgundy with a thin tan head. Aroma of funky brett, cherries, leather, and barnyard fruitiness. Taste is cherry, plum, nutty toasted malts, and oak. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with soft carbonation. Finish is pleasantly acidic with a restrained sourness. I wasn’t sure I’d ever like a sour beer. This brew is delicious, and has changed my mind.
