2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 andyhite (308) - Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA - OCT 2, 2007
330ml bottle. where’s the head??? belgians are known for their big airy heads. this petrus...it was gone by the time i finished the pour, 0.5" tops. pours a murky and faded burnt orange. aromas are a little tart, but with baking sugar notes. granny smith apples, faint plums, over-ripened berries, semi-sweet chocolate w/citrus chunks. complex indeed, but...eh. taste is yeasty, a very lively mouthfeel. it’s a brighter beer, not thin, though low in abv. it still, i get sprite characteristics from this, but mixed with a mildly dry-hopped apa. the somewhat lingering finish has a hint of styrofoam and cardboard to it that is a major let-down. what’s the special part of this ’speciale ale’? i’m a bit confused and befuzzled by this one. it’s a great effort, and i’ll re-taste down the line, but i’m just not feeling it this go-around.

Almost clear amber with minimal head. Hop presence on the nose with a bitter tone. Smells like an IPA to me. Flavor is almost washed out, bordering on watery...perhaps not bordering. Two toes might have already crossed the line. Feel is thin. Not very drinkable at all due to the fact that it has no punch or anything unique or interesting about it. This is the 4th I have tried from the Petrus 6-pack, and it is by far my least favorite. Why exactly is it labeled "Speciale" again? I am hoping the last two from the six pack are in a different league.

Yeasty aroma and flavors but not in a bad way. Quite a refreshing beer, and quaffable with its light-medium body and low alcohol content. Can seem a bit thin as a result.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Beese (79) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 30, 2007
Pours a dark amber with a little cloudyness from the sediment. The aroma is somewhat fruity with notes of yeast. A slightly metalic flavour, not particularly powerful, but not unpleasant. Some nice malty notes to finish. Not bad, by any means, but tastes like the weaker brother of many superior Belgian beers I’ve had.

330ml bottle from BeersOfEurope. A bottle conditioned pale ale. Lively carbonation - metallic and blood notes - modest caramel flavour - modest, soft flowery hops. Yeast notes. It’s drinkable stuff, but not interesting, and it lacks pleasure and flavour.

An okay beer and better than expected after some rumours. Notes of fruit, yeast, some grapecitrus and weak spices. A sessionbeer!

Didn’t really enjoy this one. It poured a nice amber color with a great head, about 1.5 inches thick initially. It shrunk to a thin coating and remained trough out. Aroma was a mix of fruits and malts, some yeast and earthy grass notes. Flavor was a big disappointment. It seemed to be all fruits. Mostly cirtus fruits with a slight grass note. pretty bland.
