3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kiefdog (1826) - Tampa, Florida, USA - JUN 18, 2008
33cl bottle from Habersham Liquors (Savannah, GAa). Pours a very dark golden honey-caramel color with a thick, frothy one-finger white head. Good head retention. Smells sweet, of ripe, dark fruit, honey, faint hints of apple. Flavor is strongly of ripe fruit, caramel, candy sugar, toffee, and candied apples. A very subtle, woody, oaky flavor is present on finish. Interesting tripel.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kopestes (164) - Braine l’Alleud, BELGIUM - JUN 12, 2008
0.33l bottle. Clear yellow color with huge fluffy head. Nice lacing down the glass. Aroma of grass, yeast and citrus. Taste is bitter and lemony with same sweetenes in the background. Maybe a bit too acid. Highly carbonated. Good Strong Belgian Ale.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 HopheadHans (789) - Bay Area, California, USA - JUN 6, 2008
Tap. This is a more hoppy or bitter triple than usual. It lacks some of the citrus and smoothness of a St Bernadus for example. It is still a good beer but not in the same league as higher rated triples. The Belgian yeastiness is subdued as well.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 esjaygee (2496) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - JUN 5, 2008
Milky cloudy golden yellow with large slowly diminishing frothy white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, grassy hops, fruit, toasted malts and light sugar. Flavor of fruits, mild Belgian Yeast, alcohol and sweet malts. Smooth, kind of syrupy and mildly astringent.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Perm (151) - Tryon, North Carolina, USA - JUN 2, 2008
OK, I’m reviewing the "Petrus Gouden Tripel," the one with the nice subdued label that says, "The key to Heaven" on it. I’m assuming this is the same thing (???). It would be a shame if it isn’t, because the beer that I had was absolutely incredibly delicious. I’d love to have someone shed some light on this for me!
Appearance: Gold in liquid form. A lovely Belgian head.
Aroma: Graham crackers, straw, apples, bananas
Taste: Citrus tartness. Solid and excellent. Leaves me craving more.
Palate: Refreshing. Quenching. Alcohol content is WELL hidden.
Overall: What can I say? Wonderful. Great with lemon coconut macaroons. Great with anything at anytime (not really, but I find this stuff incredibly satisfying.)
Serving type: bottle
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Naka (630) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 1, 2008
Shared w/ dpjuart. Pours a clear golden color with a huge frothy white head. Lots of staying power. A strong aroma of sour apple skin, some citrus grassy note. Flavor is like sour granny smith apples with lemongrass. There is a touch of sour yeast and bitterness. Finishes pretty dry, but doesn’t really leave too much on the palate. Pretty good.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RichJ7 (1175) - Cullman, Alabama, USA - MAY 26, 2008
A little bitter for a tripel. Hazy gold wit ha thick, fluffy white head. Fruity flavor, earthier than expected with a light bitter hop finish. Pretty good, but not great.
