Old_Mr_Crow (1008), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 4, 2006 From a fresh bottle.
Pours a hazy straw yellow with a nice (if short-lived) white head; the haze comes from the carbonation rather than any sediment, and the beer clears relatively quickly. <!-- p -->
The aroma catches me by surprise with a sour cut-grass aroma that reminds me more of a skunky pilsner than than abbey tripel. There are some belgian yeasts and hints of lemon as well.
The flavor is nice enough, a bit of confectionary sugar quickly yielding to gently citric hops and gentle spicy yeast flavors, leaving me with a dry finish. The mouthfeel is about what one would expect for a gentle 7.5% tripel, relatively quaffable with a hint of alcohol late in the palate.
I’m happy enough drinking this beer, but I’m not overly impressed by it. There are plenty of better tripels out there. Still, I’m with muzzlehatch in feeling that the whole is more than the sum of the parts.
cgarvieuk (2350), Edinburgh, Scotland Aug 28, 2008 Bottle at home .. Golden yellow ... big frothy head ... yeasty slight spice nose ... spicy fruity hop ... bitter finish ... ok but nothing special drjay44 (115), USA Aug 20, 2008 11.2 oz bottle. Pours a froathy head which lingers as a thin layer, pale yellow, minimal nose, multiple spice layers, which roll over the tongue, tart, bitter finish. The spice layers were the strength, lots of carbonation dominated. Borresteijn (509), Amstelveen, Netherlands Aug 14, 2008 Bottle in Bruges. Golden colour, big fluffy white head. Aroma of fruits, slightly tart, spices. Flavour is malty sweet, fruity with a sourish finish. OK. the_federalist (198), Jonesboro, Arkansas, USA Aug 13, 2008 Bottle 750ml. Pours hazy and golden with an enormous loose white head. Aroma is spicy and fruity. Flavor is sweet and tart, and the finish, instead of being yeasty, is dominated by botanicals (citrus zest and corriander). A bit too sweet for me I’m afraid. padrefan98 (593), (San Diego) Santee, California, USA Aug 6, 2008 Bottle shared at fordest house. I love this style and this one was very good. Loved the belgian spices.
