3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 TheCrowsNest (76) - Redondo Beach, California, USA - DEC 15, 2012Dark reddish brown with a thick, cream colored head. Aromas of dates, raisins, dark dried fruit, sweet caramel, apple skin; complex. Raisins, fruit cake are the easiest to identify along with a slight hop bitterness. Finishes with a nice, lingering dryness.
It’s missing something in the mid-palate, maybe they fermented it out a little too much. Still an interesting Belgian seasonal.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4974) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle:   Deep coppery amber, strong carbonation, moderate to large spritzy off-white head, spotty lacing.
Soft spicy nose, seems like some all-spice and nutmeg.   Also getting a strong Gingerbread cookie aroma.
Combination Gingerbread, dark pitted fruit, nutmeg, and all-spice on the tongue.   Falls off quicker than I expected, and
its not as malty as I would have thought.   The 9% ABV is there, but only warming.   Has a bit of Honeycomb cereal
like presence towards the backside.   This is not your usual heavy dark pitted fruit Belgian Strong, instead its more
Gingerbread oriented with a some spices.   Everything falls off somewhat quickly.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.
Its not all that heavy either.   Fairly clean finish, a little mealy but thankfully not in the American sense.
Lingering spices, nutmeg, all-spice, and Gingerbread cookies.   Decent offering, but could use more body and
general heftiness.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 jbruner (1125) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - APR 12, 2013
Pours a dark copper on tap with fluffy tan head and webby lace on the way down. Aroma of Belgian yeast and that typical Christmas beer spice. Taste is far more Belgian than the nose, slices well balanced. I can see this being good when it’s cold, but it’s just blah on mid April.

750 ml caged and corked bottle. Served in a Unibroue tulip, the beer pours a clear reddish/orange color with about an inch light tan head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is sweet and spicy, it smells like cinnamon, candied fruit, nutmeg, brown sugar, bready malt and cloves. The brew tastes like cinnamon, nutmeg, dark fruit, nuts, cloves and bready malt. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a little bit coating and is also well carbonated. I think this is more of a winter warmer than a Belgian Strong Dark Ale, but it’s still a good brew. $8.99 a bottle.
