TAR (2495) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - MAY 18, 2014
Draught @ Brauerei Pfister, Dec. 2012: Yellowish orange with slight haze. Thick eggshell foam gradually fragments. Subdued floral, tropical fruit, and sappy sugar aromas. Big bready malt notes and a faint note of jelly candy. Soft prickles of big-bubbled carbonation. Well-defined breadcrust flavors loom in the wake of the weighty sugars and potent alcoholic sharpness, though much of the malty vividness is soon negated. Fairly sweet and tacky as well, with a papaya sweetness. Splash of oily and flowery hops help to brighten things up a bit. Toasted breadcrust flavors resurface in the finish, only to be displaced by prominent alcohol and fruity esters. While I can appreciate fruity esters in lager, they’d better be subtle, for one, and accompanied by a very clean fermentation component. Unfortunately, I’m finding this to be a tad underattenuated, thus the esters make this feel a bit overcrowded. It is a reasonably clean example (no DMS or grain husks, for example), but I’m not detecting any melanoidins, and it lacks complexity and depth. Could be really good with some minor tweaks.

Erzengel (2607) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - JAN 12, 2014

draft at Brauerei Pfister in Weigelshofen
semi dark brown (dunkler bock guess) with light haziness. toasty nose has a good amount of perfumed alcohol and floral esters at play with the more typical toasted grains and sweet honey liqueur-like malt. medium-thick body with ridiculously frothy and soft carbonation. silky smooth soft texture with lingering sweet toasted cereals and bready and doughy yeast.

MoritzF (8493) - Bochum, GERMANY - NOV 20, 2012
(draught at the brewpub & swing top bottle at home) Hazy, amber colour with a big and tanned foamy head. Mildly toasted malty aroma with hints of caramel, delicately fruity and hoppy notes. Moderately sweet flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Toast-malty, mildly bready and fruity taste with a lightly hoppy touch in the background; sweet malty, elegantly toasty and delicately hop bitter finish. A fine and quaffable half-dark Bock. 09. & 11.XI.12

Koelschtrinker (10649) - Köln (Cologne), GERMANY - MAY 8, 2011

0.5 l bottle (as Pfister Öko-Bockbier 6.6 %), thanks hanniku! Dark amber color. Sweet bready and honeyish aroma with hint of raisins. Sweet mellow honeyish and bready flavor with bread crust, toffee, raisins, herbal hops and surprising firm bitterness in finish. Very mellow and rounded with no edges.

On draught (@ Brauerei Pfister, Weigelshofen): Ruby-amber coloured, a bit unclear, mid-sized, very stable off-white head, dark malt, raisins and dryish hops in the nose with a tinge of toasted/roasted malt; medium bodied, moderate to strong bitter-sweet flavour, not cloying at all; lingering, complex fruity-malty finish with a good dash of hops in the very end. Superb Bock, extremely well balanced and devilishly moreish..........

Papsoe (25085) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 26, 2006
UPDATED: SEP 1, 2007 (On tap) Beautiful, clear orange with a small, off-white head. Sweetish, malty nose - very classical Bock character. Rather full-bodied with tons of malt, lightly sweet caramel malt that never gets sticky because of the balancing dry hops. No fuss, a very straight and excellent Bock. 111106

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours amber with a slight haze and a handsome, thick and creamy head with good retention. Sweetish, malty nose with a weak, sourish edge. Full-bodied with plenty of roasted malt. Not completely fresh I’m afraid. 5/4/5/2/10=2.6 190206
