COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Flemish Etiquette implores you to wait and see if your host offers a toast before sipping your drink. Where his Belgian Strong Blonde is concerned Pfriem sees things differently. Waiting to taste a perfect harmony of strength and elegance, while sniffing its pear and clove bouquet is like torture. Clean maltiness, invigorating effervescence and just enough bitterness wait for no one.

Tap at the brewery. A: Clear straw with a drift of bubbles. Swirled white head. N: Grain, coriander, light sweet apple, esters, banana, clove, pear. T: Very sweet but not cloying M: Medium body, creamy carbonation, no alcohol. O: Clean balanced Belgian gold. A sweet treat of which I have few complaints.

Closest comp for this is RR Damnation. That’s not a bad place to be. Golden with an elegant white head. Pear, banana, clove. I love Damnation and can’t say I wouldn’t prefer this in a blind test. High notes are hit and subtleties remain. Dang. I want to move to Portland.

Bottle. Colour...hay bale yellow with a thick white head. Nose...surprisingly citrusy for the style of ale that this is, with yeasty and generally fruity notes too. Palate...light and crisp with zesty lemon and perky notes of underripe Bartlett pears. The palate is fairly frothy and certainly full. The finish is moderately long and has a spiced fruit salad thing going on. This blonde isn’t too strong, but fairly fit nonetheless.

Bottle (375ml $6): Very nice packaging - classy cork and cage in thick walled bottle. Straw color with 2 finger soapy white head. Yeast aroma. Taste citrus and yeast and some sweetness.

Pours a half finger on a clear light straw body. The aroma is coriander, lemon and spice. Nice. The taste is light grain, floral and mild honey sweet. The texture is smooth with low carbonation. It’s enjoyable.
