When the first Pale Ales were sailed around the Cape to arrive in India in the early 18th century, outcries of “Zounds! Jolly good! and Huzzah!” were heard across the East Indian subcontinent. Similar exclamations are to be expected when sniffing the piney aroma and tasting the big hops, huge citrus and candy-like malt of Pfriem’s own IPA. Drink up, Guv’nor.

sampler from bottle. poured and orange color with white head. nice citrus nose. pineapple maybe lush and juicy with some medium malts. the flavor was delightful not ever hearing of this brewery before. it was clean and crisp and almost dry on the end but the flavors of the citrus were very good in the middle. very slight warming of the alcohol.

Bottle from Trader Joe’s. A: Wow, absolutely beautiful burned gold with a firm foam white head. N: Huge dankness, grapefruit, pineapple, and pine. Underneath, there’s ample peppercorn and earth. Toffee and cracker. T: Enormous bitterness that’s somehow not astringent, light sweetness. M: Very, very dry, medium body, foamy carbonation, alcohol is dangerously hidden. O: This is an IPA? Seems like a double crammed into a smaller body. The dry-hopping and balance here is tremendous; I could drink this all day.

500 ml very attractive bottle/label package from Lifesource natural Grocers in Salem OR $3.99 Crystal clear gold coloured ale with a frothy and bubby white head..leaves massive attractive lace down the glass. Wow very tropical fruit style aromas here..delicious light and mouth watering, not getting much pine maybe a bit of Douglas Fir rosin. Very balanced taste the hops are mostly fruity and there is even a certain peppery spicy thing going on. Yeast seems Belgian in style. Nice smooth softly carbonated mouth feel. Very nice soft IPA with aspects of a Wit/White IPA.

500 ml bottle, one of those awesome new ones. Looks amazing. Pours a bight copper color with a medium white head. A big dank fruity hop nose. The flavor is resin, huge dank fresh hops, caramel, candied oranges, pine. Very flavorful, the intensity is there, but this is smooth as well. Really a lot like Pliny. Wow! Blown away. Oranges, more dankness. Bitterness mixed with sweet bursting hops. Lovely.

Light amber with big bubbles and a cm of white head. Aroma is sweet and tropically fruity with light lemon and other citrus notes. Taste is the same, and sweet, with some piney hops, and crackery malt into the finish. Very drinkable. $4/16.9oz

Draft pour at the lunchbox. Pours a lighter golden color with a patchy foam head. Piney hops aroma. Bitter flavor throughout, but not overwhelming. Crisp flavor with a decent amount of hops. Pretty good.
