When the first Pale Ales were sailed around the Cape to arrive in India in the early 18th century, outcries of “Zounds! Jolly good! and Huzzah!” were heard across the East Indian subcontinent. Similar exclamations are to be expected when sniffing the piney aroma and tasting the big hops, huge citrus and candy-like malt of Pfriem’s own IPA. Drink up, Guv’nor.

Bottle shared at Kenny’s 20K tasting - London. Many thanks to Dave for this one! Pours clear gold with a foamy, white head. Plenty of piney hops are present, along with crackery pale malts, honey and ripening citrus fruits. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Somewhat dry on the finish, with some pale bread, touches of alcohol, piney bitterness, citrus rind. Nice IPA.

Had this bottle at the 2/20/16 Pittsburgh RB Gathering @ Insurrection in Heidelberg. Big thanks to my fellow ratebeerians! Big thanks to Douglass88 for this one! When you pop the lid you get this big dull ipa olfactory permeating impact. Taste is older difficult bitterness. Fer sure this is one of the ipas I’’ve had that kick you in the teeth. Bold, green grapefruit flavors all round, twisting and turning. Nasty on style double ipa flavors like you’ve never had, sprucy pine tar. Borders on thick and viscous. Finish is terribly on style, what else can be said?

pFriem IPA on tap at Imazato. It is a slightly lighter in color than the Fred but it remains a lovely honey gold with a filmy off-white head. It’s got a resinous hop that gives me peppery prickly pear that evokes tropical fruits. Med-full bodied with a prickly carbonation. This is a classic dank resinous piney IPA featuring pine sap and bark. Well balanced and easier drinking than you’d expect from 7.2%

Bottle share at Kenny’s 20K, thanks to Dave. As ’pFriem IPA’, 7.2% bottled Sep 2015. Clear orange, still, small foamy off-white head, dotted lacing. Aroma is pine, zesty citrus, lime peel. Body is rounded, smooth, tingly carbonation. Taste is piney, floral, chalky, dry with a soft finish. Quite nice.
