On cask at the brewpub. Pours a very cloudy dirt brown with a tan head. Aroma of lots of roasted malt, some chocolate/cocoa. Flavor of bitter chocolate, sweet oatmeal malt, less roasty than the aroma suggests. Very chalky palate. Interesting porter.

The peat gives this porter a smokey flavor that is pretty good. It doesn’t stand out among other peated porters I’ve tried, but it’s worth a try if you haven’t experienced this type of beer before.

Draft at Brewers Rendezvout 7/10/10. Pours a thin head, over a clear brown (SRM 25) body.....nose is rich with coffee and chocolate.....taste is coffee, chocolate, finishing dry......mouth feel is light, carbonation low. This is true to style, but is somewhat too light to be among the best. BJCP 6/3/11/4/6
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 IainOg (75) - Virginia, USA - JUL 23, 2010
poured at the 14th annual CO Brewers’ Rendezvous. dark brown color with a thin head and minimal lacing. aroma is roasted grain, dry earth/dust, slight resin, and subtle peat with a (consequential) touch of iodine giving it a bit of a tonic-like quality. smooth, but a surprisingly light body. taste is roasted grain tending toward some mild char/smoke with some toasty/resiny notes in support, and a hint of coffee. good, but would love to try it again with more of a peated character and a bigger body.
