Joe is not your average beer. This ale is brewed with locally-roasted, fair trade coffee, Dark Munich and chocolate malts which combine to create a well-balanced, flavorful Porter with a fresh roasted coffee aroma. Good from the first drop. We use 2.5 pounds of coffee in each barrel of this robust porter. Available in both bottles and kegs for a limited time each fall and winter. 5% ALC/VOL

Draft at Standard Tap. Pours a deep brown, near black, with thin beige head and some mild soapy lace. Nose of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate. Taste of cold brewed coffee, roast, chocolate, caramel. Medium body, mild bitterness

Local pride. Bottle shared over a Troma horror film. Aroma is black coffee with slight iron. Pours thin and black with a forgettable white head/film. Taste is roast coffee, some dark fruit, and a roasty metallic taste. Light mouthfeel but it goes down easy. Nice to knock these back if you like coffee beers.

12 oz bottle from a friend’s sampler case at a weekend at Hidden Valley. Overall it was thin and insipid, lacking the intensity that a coffee porter should have.

Ok porter. Not a big fan of coffee as usual. This one is pretty light and pretty simple. A little malt flavor comes through and some hop balance at the end. However, its a pretty straight foward experience - consisting of, as advertised coffee flavor.

Ehhh. Pours reddish brown. Aroma is mostly bitter chocolate with some coffee. Rather thin in mouth with some coffee notes. Finishes dry / tart bitters.

Bottle at Tattooed Mom. Dark copper black but not opaque. Fizzy white head that disappears quickly. Decent strong coffee flavor with a juicy malt backbone. Raisins. Plums. Burnt toast. Orange peels. Tootsie Rolls. More interesting coffee beer than most.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Oak Tree, 12/6/12

Aroma: The nose has lots of roasted coffee, with some chocolate malts, and a little earth
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a small beige head that leaves scattered lace
Flavor: The taste is much the same as the nose, it is mostly roasted coffee, with a lightly bitter finish
Palate: Medium bodied, though a touch watery, with average-plus carbonation, and a light dry finish
Overall Impression: This is not a bad beer at all. The coffee presence works pretty well, and the beer itself works pretty well overall. It’s nothing stellar, but I found it quite drinkable, and fairly well made.
