COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Joe is not your average beer. This ale is brewed with locally-roasted, fair trade coffee, Dark Munich and chocolate malts which combine to create a well-balanced, flavorful Porter with a fresh roasted coffee aroma. Good from the first drop. We use 2.5 pounds of coffee in each barrel of this robust porter. Available in both bottles and kegs for a limited time each fall and winter. 5% ALC/VOL

Woo first review! On tap at SPTR. Nice looking black beer with a thin but long lasting chocolate head. The aroma is of mild coffee, with chocolate, roasted and toasted malts. The taste is balanced, and the coffee is subtle. The sweet, roasty malts, in combination with the simple coffee, creates an easy drinking, not too challenging brew that, overall, succeeds. I would like a little more complexity, and maybe a bit more strength, but for what it is this is damn good stuff.

Pours opaque black with a thin foamy tan head which fades to very little lacing. Aroma is of coffee, roasted malts, dark coco, molasses, and some sourness. Taste is similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, semi dry, medium-long finish. Overall, a pretty nice porter that has some nice coffee notes and it pretty drinkable.

12oz bottle from Crossroads. Pours a dirty dark brown/almost black color with a tiny tan head of foam. Aroma of butterfingers and roasted coffee rinds. Taste of chocolate, roasted malt, weak coffee, and hints of caramel, with a sour bitterness in the finish.

Not a bad beer. Aroma was terribly weak. Could pick up subtle hints of coffee but hard to detect. Pour was a nice deep dark brown with a thin tan ring for a head. Luckily the taste was a lot stronger than the smell. Nice coffee flavor with a slight hoppiness. Chocolate comes out a little in the flavor. A little thin and slightly watery, but for a 5% beer this isn’t bad. Mild carbonation.

Notes from Reading Tap Room, Oct 26, 2013. Nice coffee flavor but this was just way too thin. Good coffee porters start as good porters and I doubt I would have rated this porter very highly without the coffee. Pass.

Sort of like day old coffee, kinda thin and watery with just a hint of sweetness. Ok I guess. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish, one centimetre tall off-white head. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, nuts and a bunch of earth. Medium to Light-bodied; Strong coffee flavour at first with some maple syrup and a touch of toffee, all with a lot of alcohol and even more bitterness. Aftertaste shows some richness from the coffee, a good amount of roasted malt and a faint instant coffee like flavour. Overall, a decent coffee based porter that is a touch watery, but not bad at all. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle brought after a hockey game by Ed (from Philadelphia) on 15-January-2014 in Arlington, Virginia - Thanks Ed!

Bottle pours dark brown with tan head. Aroma of roasted malts and java. Flavor dominated by freshly ground coffee beans, roasted malts, semi-sweet chocolate, and light spices. Has a great earthiness. Very drinkable.

Bottle. Aged a year. Poured very dark brown color. At HV. Smells like coffee beans, vanilla, French vanilla, cocoa, roasted malt. Creamy texture. Medium light body. Tastes like coffee and roasted malt. Fairly smooth.
