Bomber from Whole Foods Wexford, PA. Pours a clear dark red-brown color with a large creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of toffee, earth, berry-like fruits. The taste is strong earthy notes, berries, toffee, herbal hops. Medium bodied.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a very dark brown color with orange highlights and a medium sized creamy tan head that lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was malty an sweetish with faint dark fruits, nut and wood. The flavor was malty and toasty with notes of maple, wood, honey, fig, apple and licorice. Medium length finish of maple, fig, wood and a touch of smoke. Moderately full bodied. Solid.

Carmael toasty creamy bready. Sweet with burnt toast flavors. Fairly heavy on the palate. Alcohol is well hidden. Not my favorite style but this one is ok, rich and flavorful.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber. Big floral aroma (heather) with vanilla, toffee, chocolate, woody hops. Dark, nearly opaque brown body with a little scarlet peaking out, supports a dense but short light brown head. Sweet fruity taste tempered by light-medium bitterness, some mineral and yeast play, mild smoke. Nice earthy undertones and heavily floral, caramel; there seems to be good malt depth without heavily reliance on the crystal family, and although the roast is muted I know it’s there. Very light woodiness and mild herbal hop contributions, with a bit of spice, but this one’s malt-focused, as it should be. Medium body, alcohol’s about where it should be, perhaps a bit hidden.. A pleasure.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours very dark brown almost black, with a very nice tan head. The smell is malty with some earthy hops, but much stronger of malts. The flavor was a little disappointing. It lacks a certain punch that most wee heavies have. I think they try to use caramel malt in place of kettle caramelization. Overall it is a decent beer but it is not a good scotch ale.

Pours a cloudy brown with a thick frothy head. Aroma of scotch whiskey and dark roasted malt. A bit of smoky overtones as well. Taste is dry smokey and peppery with a bit if residual sweetness. Crisp in the finish. A true scotch (as in barrel aged) beer.

Had from bottle. Good aromas and appearance. Disappointing taste. Doesn’t taste bad, but the flavors aren’t as great in comparison to most other scotch ales. This is one of the better PBC beers I have tried but still not quite worth the 5 dollar bomber price it sells for.
