From a true "city of neighborhoods" we offer our take on a "biere de mars, " or a ruddy farmhouse ale. In true Philadelphia fashion, European and American ingredients are melded into a complex, ruby ale with flavors of toasted malt and rye. It's the perfect accompaniment for some quality time enjoyed in the backyard (or on the front stoop) of your urban farmhouse.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy light tan head and copper/amber color. Aroma is musty medium malt-slight caramel/peat, some odd yeast. Taste is a mess.

Bottle. Deep copper pour with 3-finger off-white head. Nose is caramel malt, vinous fruit, some citrus and hops. Tastes caramel malty, with brown sugar, fig, and heavy vinous fruit notes. Fairly rich and creamy palate. Solid.

Bottle. Pours copper with a thin off white head. Sweet malty aroma with a hint of fruit. The flavor has toasty malt, a spicy rye hint, light sweetness and a dash of floral hops. Nice.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-brown color with a small beige head. The aroma was lightly fruity and nutty. The flavor was bitter, fruity and had a light sour caramel and nut element. The finish was long, bitter, fruity and a bit rough. Medium body. Eh.

Poured a red amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, citrus, rye, pine, nuts, and caramel. Taste of caramel, crystal malt, citrus fruits, toffee, pine, toast, and nuts. Chewy mouthfeel. Solid, just nothing mind-blowing.

Well, its red, as one might expect. Foamy white head. Smells like toast and brown sugar, tastes like toast and other malty, sweet flavors. There is an odd note in there - rye? maybe? no? anyone? Woody note as it warms. Simple and tasty.

This poured a ruby red color with an egshell colored head. Aroma was caramle malt, a bit toasted and not much else, maybe some spice notes too. Flavor was a hint of the rye, caramel malts, lots of reddish ale flavor and a slight off bitterness. Not good.
