4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dacrza (335) - Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA - SEP 1, 2012
glassware: Victory nonick...occasion: it’s a cold winter day--enough said...aroma: brilliant floral bouquet: clove and citrus mixed with malts is exciting...appearance: dark orange-brown body with a creamy white head that befits the winter snow outside...palate: creamy, warm rush of thick, full-bodied ale--easily palatable, though...taste: definite plum and marginal spices percolate in the teeth--fulfiiling and appropriate...overall: umlauts are always welcome in a beer’s name, and though they promise BOG taste, this brew delivers seasonably well....

Enjoyed on tap at the Artful Dodger in Philly. Pours brown a little reddish, tan. Foamy head, smells spicy and a little sour. Taste is also spicy and a little sour. Finishes smooth, a little oaky. Brewery owners were hanging at the end of the bar while we were there enjoying these.

22 oz. bottle from michael-pollack- thanks again, Pollack! Pours an orange-amber that is cloudy in the middle with a small off-white head. Aroma of fruity funk (grapes, raisins, and apples mostly), nutmeg, caramel malts, ginger, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Flavor of the same fruity, funky notes, along with nutmeg, cinnamon, vegetal notes, sweet bready malts, and caramel. Light-medium bodied, with moderate carbonation and a sweet, funky mouthfeel. This wasn’t quite what I expected but it was pretty interesting and tasty.

Bottle thanks to hopscotch. Pale burnt orange pour with a small white head. Apple and cinnamon aromas. Totally reminds me of wassail with orange and spice flavors...

From a bottle poured a brown color with a small amount of head. Sweet spicy malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Heathen (1386) - Wilmington, Delaware, USA - JAN 11, 2011
THOUGHTS: Spicy and fruity, but a little watery. It would probably be incredible if it had a fuller beer as a bade. Pleasant, but nothing super special. It wouldn’t be bad in the summer with the base beer that was used. It was a little like an herbal tea in beer format.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a slightly hazy, dark orangey amber or a very light brown with an average to large, off-white head that kept a nice sheet and left good lacing. The aroma wasn’t bad, but it was weak. There was nuts, fruit, Christmasy spices and more specifically, plum. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet; while the finish was moderately sweet and slightly bitter with a fairly short duration. Over all it was a little watered down. There was plum, I guess dates, sort of a fig thing, Christmasy spices, nuts and prune. The light to medium body was a bit watery with sort of soft carbonation and an ever so slightly chalky finish.

From notes: pours orangey red-amber with an off-white head. Nice aromas of spice and ginger, maybe some candied fruit too. Smooth, medium-bodied, nice depth. Notes of orange and ginger in the flavor, some spices (maybe cinnamon and clove) linger in the finish.

Brown amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, some nuts, light spices, brown sugar, and faint floral hops. Taste of light citrus, caramel, spices, vanilla, and a semi-sweet finish.

Tap at the PBC Holiday Party 2009. Pours a deep hazy brown with a medium off white creamy head. Flavor and aroma was very spicy, Christmas spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, clove, ginger maybe some all spice), nuts, brown sugar and vanilla. Flavor was a lot of the same. Was actually well balanced, yet on the spicy side of things. But it worked. Also getting some orange notes i the flavor.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Capa (1905) - Manama, BAHRAIN - JAN 20, 2011
Deep amber caramel with a white head. Malty, sweet, light spice in the aroma. Flavor has a much stronger spice than the aroma let on. Quite malty, light caramel, some toasted malts, with light alcohol. Medium bodied and works well with the flavor. Really a nice winter beer.
