DuffMan (2721), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada Jul 5, 2006 Deep orange-amber, hazy, with a thick creamy apricot head. Massive aromas of sweet grapefruit, tropical fruit, and toffee. There is potential here for the hop content to pound things into oblivion, but the sweet crystal malts are solid and hold their own very well, giving a depth and richness to rhis beer that is surprising and fantastic. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Jun 25, 2006 (650ml bottle) I’ve tried this before but have never reviewed it - so I grabbed another couple of bottles from the Colwood BC Liquor Store for good measure. The first bottle was sunk while staying a night in residence while the other made the rounds while camping on Salt Spring Island... where I studiously took notes. Pours a large almond head and a deep orange body. The nose is piny and sweet sweet grapefruit. Very flavourful and hopped though balanced by thick English tasting malt. Lovely beer all around --- would love to get this on tap. SpringsLicker (2041), Tennessee, USA Jun 8, 2006 Updated: Jan 16, 2007Noogfest
Clear gold with a fleeting white head.
Thin aroma of hops and little malt.
Dry flavor. Some bitterness but needs some more malt in there to balance. Comes close to astringent.
Re-rate 1/13/07 The score is from the re-rate.
7/4/7/3/13
Average white head over a hazy dark orange.
Big fruity malt aroma.
The flavor was still moderately bitter and needing some malt balance, but no astringency was noted this time. brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Jun 1, 2006 Sampled at Noogfest-2. Pours an amber color with a dirty light head. Very light aroma for a 2IPA. Hoppy but thin and metallic towards the end. Dry earthy spice and pine great your taste buds but there is no where near enough malt to keep this afloat. Disappointing. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA May 29, 2006 A light clear amber pour with a big hops aroma. The hops push hard in the flavor overpowering the malt. Not much balance but plenty of hops with a nice bitter finish. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA May 22, 2006 Coppery yellow, with a white head. Big grapefruit aroma up front, and some nice background notes of toasty malt. Considering how earthy the regular Phillips IPA is, I was thinking this one would be, too, but it has more of a citrus/grapefruit note throughout. There are nice notes of pine and oak in there, though. Thanks to Oakes for the trade. Sampled at Noogfest2. Shag (1922), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA May 22, 2006 A dark orange appearance with a slight orange citrusy aroma. The flavor is light perfume and a subdue orange flavor. The mouthfeel is creamy and sweet. This beer was not very bitter at all. Not a bad beer but lacking for the style. Perhaps its called Amnesiac because it’s easily forgotten. aracauna (2357), Georgia, USA May 22, 2006 This one pours a pale amber and a slight head. The hops are all there is in this beer. There is no malt in the aroma or flavor, at least when compared to the hops. Astringent bitterness.
