Yeast in the bottle adds a nice zing to the mouthfeel which is grapefruity with some whiskiness from the malt. My only double IPA thusfar but it’s a great one! Served at room temperature, at fridge temp its not quite as distinguishable from Phillips single. mgermani (864), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Fantastic. Flavour is not surprisingly heavy on the hops - grassy, citrusy hops. Notes of grapefruit and orange pith over a warming amber malt base. Great carbonation, milky, creamy body. Excellent lingering aftertaste, strong and malty and warm with rich, complex hopping. All-round excellent beer, it will be fantastic in the summer! lando7 (5), , British Columbia, Canada does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 6, 2008 This definitely has a lot of hops, but it is also well defined and complex. Beautiful balance between the hops and caramel flavours. Well done. andrewfriesen (23), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

I’m a hops freak so the more they can jam in, the better. The finish was so long and bitter. I liked it. Not for everyone. CapFlu (3481), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 25, 2006 (650ml bottle) I’ve tried this before but have never reviewed it - so I grabbed another couple of bottles from the Colwood BC Liquor Store for good measure. The first bottle was sunk while staying a night in residence while the other made the rounds while camping on Salt Spring Island... where I studiously took notes. Pours a large almond head and a deep orange body. The nose is piny and sweet sweet grapefruit. Very flavourful and hopped though balanced by thick English tasting malt. Lovely beer all around --- would love to get this on tap. stephen louis (162), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 20, 2004 I have just finished a few of Phillips very fine IPA’s,now to his Double IPA..
On the pour..great colour and a strong head.I noted a much more bitter nose compared to their normal IPA.
Well the Taste does not let down.Very good.Still has that flowery hop beginning ,and a slight creaminess to start, the middle has no time for malt, straight to hops, still touches on flowers and lemon, but much more bitter. My mood is Right for this..it is a great beer.
The body is rock solid for style and the drink-ability is awesome.
A bitter but flavourful beer...not unbalanced like alot of the new American double IPA’s but well done and with some direction, not hoppy for the sake of hops, but hoppy for the sake of extreme flavour.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 7, 2008 Amber color; creamy head. It has the caramel-malt aroma of a Barley Wine or American Strong Ale. Indeed the flavor plays a lot on the bold caramel, the body is medium-strong, strong bitterness; the hop feeling is dry, resiny. The final is less sweet than an American one, but the hop is equally good. Very good. DuffMan (2751), the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, Canada
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 5, 2006 Deep orange-amber, hazy, with a thick creamy apricot head. Massive aromas of sweet grapefruit, tropical fruit, and toffee. There is potential here for the hop content to pound things into oblivion, but the sweet crystal malts are solid and hold their own very well, giving a depth and richness to rhis beer that is surprising and fantastic.
