Phillips Black Toque India Dark Ale

From bottle, blind #32. Pours dark brown to black with a slowly collapsing off-white head. Solid hoppy and light wooden aroma. Light fruity and hoppy aroma. Light bodied. Mild roasted to acidic base flavoured. Bitter and fruity base flavoured. Light acidic and fruity into the far finish. Smooth and fruity hoppy lasting impression.

Bottle #32 at Papsø’s blindtasting. Hazy red brown coloured with a medium sized beige head. Sweet and roasted aroma of coffee, chocolate and berries. Sweet and roasted flavour of coffee, chocolate and berries. Roasted finish.

Bottle at PPRBSG09. Pours a dark brown with a small white head. Aroma of sweet and roasted malt. Flavor is nice and roasted with some iced tea notes and a solid malt backbone. A little sweet. An ok beer. 6/4/6/3/13 (3.2/5)

22 oz. bottle courtesy of JoeMcPhee. Pours a clear dark brown, slightly tinted red when held against light. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is again chocolate and roasted malt along with just a hint of cigar tobacco. Fairly smooth on the palate with light bitterness at the finish. Tasty.

(PPSG09, 22oz bottle, thanks JoeMcPhee) Medium off-white head atop dark brown body. Aroma is moderately sweet, chocolate, roast, some grapefruit, light caramel. Medium body, low carbonation, light stickiness.

PPRBSG09. Pours a cola brown body with off white head. Chewy tawny licorice and some light earthy bitterness. Pine and a roast y finish.

Bottle: Deep brown pour with a tan head. Aroma is that of a hoppy porter- dry cocoa notes and resinous hops (chinook). Creamy palate- balanced flavor of cocoa notes and earthy hops. Well integrated and drinkable.

Bottle thanks to Joe at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Gathering. Pours a clear dark brown. Roast malt, hops, and chocolate on the nose. Medium bodied, sweet with a nice chocolate malt character. Nice smooth bitterness. Tasty and well balanced.
